  • Gerald Meerschaert is listed as the -125 favorite to beat Kzysztof Jotko in their April 30th bout.
  • Meerschaert has won three straight bouts since losing to Khamzat Chimaev.
  • Jotko has lost just once in his last four bouts after a three-fight losing skid.

Gerald Meerschaert has opened as the slight betting favorite against fellow veteran Krzysztof Jotko.

The two veterans with a combined 76 fights have been booked to fight at UFC on ESPN 35 on April 30th and according to the top UFC betting sites, Meerschaert is slightly favored to win the bout:

Submission Magician

Meerschaert is coming off a submission win over Dustin Stolzfus at UFC Vegas 45 last December 18, 2021. The win added to Meerschaert’s UFC record for most submission wins in the history of the middleweight division with a total of 8. It was also his third straight victory losing to Khamzat Chimaev in 17 seconds at UFC Fight Night 178.

The 34-year-old from Racine, Wisconsin is a former Resurrection Fighting Alliance middleweight champion who also fought under Titan FC, King of the Cage, Combat USA, and KOTC among others. Meerschaert joined the UFC in 2016 and opened his Octagon career with a 5-5 record in his first 10 bouts before winning his last three. He has a record of 34-14 with 6 knockouts and 6 submission victories.

This will be the second time in his last 10 bouts where Meerschaert has opened as the betting favorite in a UFC bout. The only other time he was the betting favorite during this stretch was in his last fight against Stolzfus where he opened at -255 and closed as the -225 odds on favorite.

Jotko Takes Split Decision Against Misha Cirkunov

Jotko took a split decision against Misha Cirkunov in his most recent fight at UFC Vegas 38 last October 2, 2021, in Cirkunov’s middleweight debut. The win was the fourth in the last five bouts for Jotko who previously lost three consecutive bouts against David Branch, Uriah Hall, and Brad Tavares.

The 32-year-old from Elblag, Poland began his fighting career at Pro Fights, Black Dragon, ZSSC: Martial Arts Night, Chelm Fight Night, Pro Fight, and MMA Attack where he amassed a 13-0 record. Jotko was signed by the UFC in 2013 and he went on to win six out of his first seven UFC bouts. He has an overall record of 23-5 with six knockouts and one submission victory.

Jotko will be the betting underdog for the 2nd time in his last nine bouts. The only other time that the Polish fighter had the plus money sign written next to his name was when he fought Sean Strickland at UFC Vegas 25 at +200 odds. He lost that bout via unanimous decision. Jotko was also the +115 underdog when he was submitted by Magnus Cedelband in his second UFC appearance.
