With Iga Swiatek Out, Ons Jabeur is New Wimbledon Betting Favorite

Ons Jabeur Wimbledon Tennis Background

  • Ons Jabeur is the new odds on favorite to win Wimbledon after top-seeded Iga Swiatek was upset in the third round.
  • Jabeur is currently listed at +165 odds with 2019 Wimbledon winner Simona Halep second at +450 odds.
  • Amanda Amisova is third at +800 while Paula Badosa is 4th with her +1000 odds.

Ons Jabeur opened with the second-best odds to win the Wimbledon women’s singles tournament at +1000 odds. But with overwhelming favorite and world no. 1 Iga Swiatek upset in the third round, Jabeur has emerged as the new odds-on-favorite.

According to online sportsbook BetOnline, the 27-year-old Tunisian is now the +165 favorite to win the tournament with 2019 Wimbledon winner Simona Halep chasing her at +450 odds.

Back-to-back Quarterfinals Appearances at Wimbledon

Jabeur defeated Elise Mertens 7-6, 6-4 in the fourth round of the tournament on Sunday. She will advance to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year and will face Marie Bouzkova. Jabeur has opened as the heavy -365 odds on favorite to win the match, while Bouzkova is the +295 Moneyline underdog.

It’s no surprise why Jabeur is the new odds-on favorite to win the tournament. Not only is she the highest-ranked player left in the field, but she is also playing at a very high level at the All-England Club and has not dropped a set so far in four matches won. Jabeur’s path to the Final isn’t also as daunting. If she beats the no. 66 ranked Bouzkova in the quarterfinals, her Final Four opponent will be either #97 Julie Niemeier or #103 Tatjana Maria.

Niemeier has opened as the -194 betting favorite against Maria but after the latter stunned 5th ranked Maria Sakkari as the +470 underdog in the third round and upset no. 12 Jelena Ostapenko as a +340 bottom dog in the 4th round, there’s no doubt that Maria is a live dog against Niemeier. Maria has a +2800 odds to win it all while Neimeir is listed at +1400 odds to win the tournament.

Simona Halep Demolishes Magdalena Frech

Meanwhile, 2019 Wimbledon winner and former world no.1 Simona Halep now has the second-best odds to win. Halep opened with the 4th best odds at +1200 but after taking out Karolina Muchova and Kirsten Flipkens, she demolished Magdalena Frech in just 61 minutes to advance to the 4th round where she will be tested by 4th seeded Paula Badosa. Halep is the -190 betting favorite to beat Badosa who has the 4th best odds to win the tournament at +1000.

If Halep gets past Badosa, her quarterfinals opponent will be the winner between no. 20 Amanda Amisova and Frenchwoman Harmony Tan. Amisova is the heavy -332 betting favorite to win that match. The 20-year-old Amisova upset 11th seeded Coco Gauff who entered the tournament with +1300 odds to win it all. Amisova has the current third-best odds to win the tournament at +800.

Alize Cornet, who scored the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating Swiatek, is listed at +1600. Cornet was a heavy +400 betting underdog against Swiatek who entered their match having won 37 consecutive matches and six straight tournaments. Despite the disparity, Cornet dealt Swiatek her first defeat in 135 days. Cornet is listed as a -126 favorite to defeat Ajla Tomljanovic in her round 4 assignment.
