- The Phoenix Suns have the most number of tickets and highest betting handle in the Western Conference futures betting market at BetMGM.
- The Suns opened at +2000 to win the West but are now a +750 to repeat as Western Conference Champions.
- Devin Booker and Chris Paul are a +2200 and +2500 to win MVP honors.
The Phoenix Suns were two wins shy of winning their first NBA title last season.
After making the playoffs for the first time since 2010, the Suns went all the way to play in their first NBA Finals since 1993. They won the first two games of the championship series, only to watch Giannis Antetokounmpo and company win four in a row to “steal” what looked like Chris Paul’s first-ever NBA title win.
Coming off that breakthrough campaign, the Suns head to the 2021-22 season as the most popular bet to win the Western Conference for the second straight year.
According to the online sportsbook BetMGM, Phoenix has the most number of betting tickets and most money wagered for in the Western Conference betting market. The Suns also have the second most bets for the 2022 NBA Championship at 10.1%. They are sandwiched between the Lakers at 22.3 % and the Denver Nuggets who have 9.0% of the total tickets written.

Despite coming off their best season since 2010, the Suns didn’t get plenty of love from the sportsbooks when they opened their futures odds for the 2021-22 NBA season. Phoenix opened as a +2000 to win the Western Conference at BetMGM and they were also listed at +4000 to win the NBA championship, the highest opening odds for a reigning Western Conference champion since 1984-85.
The public was quick to pounce on the Suns’ long odds, making them one of the most favorite bets in both the Western Conference and NBA Championship betting market. With heavy action on Phoenix, their odds have now shortened to +750 to win the West and +1500 to win the NBA championship.
The Los Angeles Lakers at +425 and the Golden State Warriors at +700 are still the top two betting favorites to win the Western Conference at BetMGM while the Suns are in the third spot. Meanwhile, Phoenix has the 5th best odds to win the Larry O’ Brien trophy with the Brooklyn Nets (+240), Lakers (+400), Milwaukee Bucks (+900), and Golden State Warriors (+900) as the only teams with shorter odds than them.

After losing to the Sacramento Kings 117-106 in their preseason opener, the Suns have racked up three straight wins, all via double digits. Phoenix handed the Western Conference betting favorites Lakers two defeats, beating the Purple and Gold 117-105 at the Footprint Center and blowing out the 2020 NBA champions 123-94 at Staples Center.
In their most recent preseason game last Wednesday night, the Suns annihilated Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers 119-74 in Devin Booker’s first preseason appearance. D-Book immediately made an impact, scoring 16 points on 6-10 shooting in just 18 minutes of playing time. Booker currently has the 8th best odds to win MVP honors at +2200 at the BetOnline App while backcourt partner Chris Paul is right behind him at +2500.
As for the team, the Suns are favored to go over their win total of 51.5 games and are a massive -2000 to make the 2022 NBA Playoffs. It has been a massive turnaround for the Suns since they acquired Chis Paul. With CP3 signing a four-year contract extension during the offseason, Phoenix is guaranteed continuity in the coming years.
