Ponzinibbio Loses to Geoff Neal via Split Decision

Ponzinibbio heads to this bout after losing a tough split decision against Geoff Neal at UFC 269 last December 11, 2021. The loss was his second in his last three bouts. Ponzinibbio was knocked out by Li Jingliang at UFC Fight Island 7 last January 16, 2021. After that loss, he bounced back to beat Miguel Baeza in a Fight of the Night winner at UFC Vegas 28.

The 35-year-old from La Plata, Argentina is the no. 14 ranked welterweight in the UFC. Ponzinibbio began his career in Argentina and Brazil before joining the UFC in 2013. After going 2-2 in his first four UFC bouts, Ponzinibbio won his next seven bouts. Overall, the Argentinian has a record of 18-5 with 15 knockouts and six submission victories.

He will be favored for the fifth time in his last seven bouts. However, Ponzinibbio’s last two defeats have come with the minus money sign written next to his name. The Argentinian was the -130 favorite when he lost to Neal. Ponzinibbio was also the heavy -350 betting favorite when he was knocked out by Li Jingliang. He was also the -105 favorite when he suffered his first UFC loss against Ryan LaFlare in 2013.

Pereira Cashes as -260 Betting Favorite Over Ande Fialho

Meanwhile, Pereira cashed as the -260 betting favorite against Andre Fialho in his most recent bout at UFC 270 last January 22, 2022. The win was the fourth straight victory for Pereira inside the UFC Octagon and his third consecutive win via unanimous decision. Pereira was a +225 to win that bout via decision.

The 28-year-old from Para, Brazil is a veteran who has been fighting since 2011. Pereira has made appearances for promotions like 300 Sparta, Akhmat Fight Club, Jungle Fight, Xtreme Fighting Championship, and Serbian Battle Championship where he won the promotion’s welterweight title. Pereira joined the UFC in 2019 and after knocking out Danny Roberts in his UFC debut, he lost back-to-back bouts to Tristan Connelly and Diego Sanchez. Overall, Pereira is 27-11 with 10 knockouts and 7 submission wins.

This marks the first time that Pereira will be the underdog in a UFC bout since opening at +160 during his maiden UFC appearance against Roberts. He closed at +210 in that bout which stands as the only time he’s entered the UFC Octagon with the plus money sign written next to his name.
