Shane McClanahan Emerges as New AL Cy Young Betting Favorite

Shane McClanahan Cy Young Award MLB Backgorund

  • Shane McClanahan is the new AL Cy Young betting favorite at +275 odds.
  • McClanahan allowed only one earned run on three hits in seven innings pitched during Saturday’s 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays last Saturday.
  • Preseason betting favorite Gerritt Cole has slipped to 4th at +800.

The AL Cy Young odds boards have been on a roller coaster ride since the start of the current MLB season. The current betting boards look entirely different from the ones we saw when the season opened.

Early favorites like Gerritt Cole and Shohei Ohtani are still in the mix. But among the pitchers with the six shortest odds to win the award, three were not among the preseason betting favorites, including the current odds on favorite, Shane McClanahan.

McClanahan Keeps on Dealing

McClanahan dominated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday to emerge as the new AL Cy Young betting favorite at most of the top MLB sportsbooks. The 25-year-old left-hander allowed only one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in seven innings pitched during a 6-2 win by the Rays. But not only did he have another fantastic outing on Saturday, but McClanahan also made history.

He became the first pitcher in MLB history to allow 19 earned runs or fewer while striking out at least 133 hitters thru 16 starts in a season. Saturday’s game marked the 9th time in his last 10 games where he’s allowed one earned run or less. The most runs he’s allowed this season were three against the Minnesota Twins in a game where outfielder Kyle Garlick hit two home runs.

McClanahan leads the AL in ERA and WHIP at 1.74 and 0.81 and has the most strikeouts in all of baseball. He has 11 starts with one or fewer earned runs allowed and 7 starts with 9+ strikeouts and has allowed 2 walks or fewer in 14 starts. McClanahan has pitched 5+ innings in his last 14 starts and 6+ innings in his last 10. With one impressive performance after another, the top baseball betting sites have rewarded McClanahan.

Latest AL Cy Young Odds
