The Mets and Yankees are on top of their respective divisions as the calendar turned to June.
The American League East leaders Yankees are 34-15 on the season and not only do they have the best record in the AL but also the best record in all of baseball. Meanwhile, the National League East leaders Mets are 35-17 on the year and have the second-best record in the big leagues, just one-half game behind the Yankees.
With the early season success of both New York teams, there is a possibility that we will have a Subway World Series come October. There’s still a long way to go before that would happen, but the best MLB betting sites are already pricing a 2022 World Series meeting between the Mets and Yankees at +1400 odds.

It has been 22 years since the first and only meeting between these two New York teams in the World Series. In that encounter, the Yankees prevailed 4-1 to win a third consecutive Commissioner’s Trophy. The Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009 while the Mets’ drought is longer as they last won in 1986. This year could be the year they meet again in the Fall Classic but the road to that is still very long and needs several things to happen.
First, the Mets must get Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer back and healthy for the rest of the season. If they get both Cy Young winners back, they are legitimate World Series contenders. The Mets have proved they can win games without the two and they will most likely make the playoffs even without them. To win in October however, they need their two best pitchers.
On the other hand, the Yankees need Aaron Judge to stay healthy and hope that their annual injury avalanche doesn’t run down the mountain again. The Yankees’ slugger is having an MVP caliber season and at +350, he has the second shortest odds to win AL MVP honors. Judge leads baseball with 18 home runs and is 6th with 38 RBIs. He is also 3rd in OPS at 1.029 and is 17th in batting average at .303.
