  • Oddsmakers are placing the odds of a Yankees vs Mets World Series at +1400.

The Mets and Yankees are on top of their respective divisions as the calendar turned to June.

The American League East leaders Yankees are 34-15 on the season and not only do they have the best record in the AL but also the best record in all of baseball. Meanwhile, the National League East leaders Mets are 35-17 on the year and have the second-best record in the big leagues, just one-half game behind the Yankees.

With the early season success of both New York teams, there is a possibility that we will have a Subway World Series come October. There’s still a long way to go before that would happen, but the best MLB betting sites are already pricing a 2022 World Series meeting between the Mets and Yankees at +1400 odds.

Favorites to Win the World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still the +400 betting favorites to win the 2022 World Series but after Wednesday’s schedule, the Dodgers have lost three straight games and have dropped to 33-17 on the season, the The Yankees meanwhile, have the second-best odds to win the 2022 World Series at +600 while their cross-town town rivals Mets are next at +800.

In the American League, the Yankees are the odds on favorite to win the AL pennant at +290 odds. The Houston Astros are second with their +375 odds while the Toronto Blue Jays are third at +525 odds. The Bronx Bombers are also the -260 betting favorite to win the AL East with the Blue Jays chasing them at +350. New York is five games up on Toronto in the division standings and two games ahead of Houston in the league standings.

Meanwhile, the Mets have the second-best odds to win the National League at +350. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers who are currently listed at +215 have better odds to win the NL Pennant than them. The Mets are a huge -450 to win the NL East as they have taken a massive 10.5 games lead over the Braves who are a +500 to win the Division. New York is also currently one game ahead of the Dodgers in the league team standings.

New York State of Mind

It has been 22 years since the first and only meeting between these two New York teams in the World Series. In that encounter, the Yankees prevailed 4-1 to win a third consecutive Commissioner’s Trophy. The Yankees have not won the World Series since 2009 while the Mets’ drought is longer as they last won in 1986. This year could be the year they meet again in the Fall Classic but the road to that is still very long and needs several things to happen.

First, the Mets must get Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer back and healthy for the rest of the season. If they get both Cy Young winners back, they are legitimate World Series contenders. The Mets have proved they can win games without the two and they will most likely make the playoffs even without them. To win in October however, they need their two best pitchers.

On the other hand, the Yankees need Aaron Judge to stay healthy and hope that their annual injury avalanche doesn’t run down the mountain again. The Yankees’ slugger is having an MVP caliber season and at +350, he has the second shortest odds to win AL MVP honors. Judge leads baseball with 18 home runs and is 6th with 38 RBIs. He is also 3rd in OPS at 1.029 and is 17th in batting average at .303.
