- Cheyanne Buys has opened as the -220 betting favorite against Mallory Martin (+185).
- Buys agreed to step in on short notice and fight Martin after the latter’s opponent, Montserrat Ruiz, withdrew from the bout due to undisclosed reasons.
- This marks the third straight bout where Buys has opened as the betting favorite in a UFC bout.
Oddsmakers are favoring Cheyanne Buys for her UFC Vegas 44 bout despite accepting the fight on short notice.
Buys will face Mallory Martin in a three-round women’s strawweight feature in the UFC’s December 4th event at the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Martin was supposed to fight Monserrat Ruiz in the event but the latter withdrew from the bout this week due to undisclosed reasons. Buys, who also had to withdraw from her UFC Vegas 43 bout last week, agreed to step in and face Martin on short notice. Despite the circumstances surrounding the fight’s booking, the best UFC betting sites are still favoring Buys to win the fight:

This marks the third straight time under the UFC where Buys has opened as the betting favorite. Buys was a -250 when she hit the betting boards against Ruiz, was a -225 against Rose, and a -180 against de Paula. Buys closed at a personal-best -330 during her UFC debut against Ruiz and lost that bout via a one-sided unanimous decision.
The Warrior Princes however, bounced back from that loss with a quick and devastating 60-second knockout of Gloria de Paula in the Performance of the Night winner at UFC Vegas 33 last July 31, 2021. With that victory, Buys improved her record to 6-2 with two knockouts.
Buys fought for LFA and Invicta FC before becoming the interim BTC strawweight champion in Ontario, Canada. She then auditioned for the UFC via the Contender Series where she defeated Hilarie Rose to earn a UFC contract. She was supposed to fight Loma Lookboonme this weekend at UFC Vegas 43 but tested positive for COVID-19 last week and had to be removed from the bout.
Viana Submits Martin

Martin meanwhile will be trying to get back on track after getting submitted by Polyana Viana in her most recent bout. Viana made easy work of the 27-year old Martin by immediately dragging the fight to the ground where she wrapped up a nasty armbar submission 198 seconds into the contest. The loss was Martin’s second in three UFC bouts.
The Denver, Colorado native began her MMA career at Kunlun Fight MMA before appearing at LFA and becoming a mainstay at Invicta FC. After losing two out of her first three MMA bouts, she won five straight bouts, including three via stoppage to earn a crack at the UFC.
Martin has been favored in three out of her first four UFC bouts. The only time she has closed as the underdog was when she was listed at +225 against Virna Jandiroba, a fight she lost via rear-naked choke. Martin was the -120 odds on favorite when she suffered her second submission loss in the UFC against Viana the last time out.
