  • Stipe Miocic lost his UFC heavyweight title to Francis Ngannou in March of this year.
  • The former champion has been out of action since that loss with no word on his next opponent.
  • New reports indicate fans could see Stipe Miocic leaving the UFC at some point this year.

The UFC’s heavyweight division is widely considered to be the best in all of MMA. For years, Stipe Miocic ruled over this division and now seems determined to earn another crack at the world title. Rumors have begun to surface this week claiming fans may soon see Stipe Miocic leaving the UFC in the near future.

Many would be disappointed to see Stipe leave the UFC. He has some unfinished business with the current champion, Francis Ngannou. Now is the perfect time to talk about how things may play out in this weight class over the next few months.

Let’s get into it!

The UFC’s Heavyweight Title Picture is a Little Blurry Right Now

The past few years have been interesting for the UFC’s heavyweight division. It seemed like Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier were the only men capable of fighting for the division’s title for a time. They ended up fighting on three occasions, with Miocic winning two of the bouts to secure the rubber match victory.

Stipe returned to defend his title last March against an old rival, Francis Ngannou. Many online sports betting sites listed the odds for this bout extremely close. Stipe won the first bout with Ngannou in 2018, yet Francis had been on a tear leading into this rematch.

Francis looked considerably improved in this second fight. He picked Stipe apart on the feet and landed a knockout left hook to win the belt in the second round. It was an incredible victory for one of the sport’s most exciting stars.

Unfortunately, fans will need to wait a while to see Ngannou back in the Octagon. The UFC has chosen to book Derrick Lewis and Cyril Gane into an interim heavyweight title fight in early August. This seems to be due to the UFC’s failed contract negotiations with Ngannou.

It’s tough to see Ngannou on the sidelines once again. He has fought just twice in the past two years. Just about everyone is curious to see whether or not the Cameroon-born striker can add another knockout win to his resume against a top contender.

Little attention has been given to Stipe Miocic since he lost the heavyweight title. Here’s a quick update on what might be next for the former champion.

Fans Could See Stipe Miocic Leaving the UFC in 2021

Looking back, Stipe Miocic never really got his due while being the UFC’s heavyweight champion. He is arguably the best heavyweight in the division’s history and earned wins over a huge number of legendary competitors. He didn’t have the flashiest style, however, and could never break into the mainstream like other UFC champions have been able to do.

Stipe has been staying mostly quiet since losing the heavyweight belt. There have been some rumors circulating that he will face Jon Jones once “Bones” is ready to compete again. Nothing has been confirmed, however, and Stipe doesn’t seem overly interested in that bout.

It now appears we could see Stipe Miocic leaving the UFC entirely. ONE Championship recently took to Instagram and asked its followers who the promotion should sign next. Stipe Miocic commented on the post in a way that signifies he is interested in changing to a new promotion.

There are some exciting matchups that Stipe Miocic could find himself in with ONE Championship. There is no doubt that the UFC is home to the best heavyweight roster in MMA, though. It’s here that he will face the biggest-possible tests in his career.

Hope is that this is only a type of negotiation tactic for Stipe Miocic. He is one of the most-liked competitors in the UFC and has a massive fanbase eager to see him return. It will be interesting to see how the UFC responds to his interest in moving over to ONE.

For now, combat sports enthusiasts will need to look forward to the upcoming heavyweight title bout between Cyril Gane and Derrick Lewis. Now is a great time to check out the odds for this massive clash taking place on August 7!

Breaking Down the Odds on Gane vs. Lewis Online

Next month’s interim heavyweight title fight might not make the most sense. It has only been a few months since Francis Ngannou last competed and he seems ready to fight again soon. UFC President Dana White does what he wants, however, and it seems he feels this is the fight to make right now.

BetOnline, one of the most popular online sportsbooks in the US, is now offering some fantastic odds on Gane vs. Lewis online. Some fans are showing surprise at where these men are with the oddsmakers. It’s clear that these odds heavily favor one man.

That is the undefeated Cyril Gane. The Frenchman has gone 9-0 thus far in his MMA career with six of those wins coming in the UFC. He is an extremely skilled striker and knows how to use his range to frustrate opponents inside the Octagon. BetOnline lists Gane’s odds to win this bout at -360.

Derrick Lewis has been competing in the UFC since 2014 and appears to be in the prime of his career right now. He is coming off an incredible knockout win over Curtis Blaydes and also holds a win over Francis Ngannou dating back to 2018. Lewis currently holds odds of +285 to get the victory in this bout.

Many will be looking forward to seeing how this fight plays out. The winner will set themselves up with a fight against Francis Ngannou at some point in the future. Stay tuned for an in-depth betting breakdown of this bout as it draws closer!
