Suns Favored to Land Kevin Durant if He Leaves the Nets

Kevin Durant Where To Next

  • The Phoenix Suns have the best odds to land Kevin Durant if he leaves Brooklyn.
  • Rumors of Durant leaving Brooklyn have surfaced since the Nets were ousted in the first round of the playoffs.
  • Brooklyn is still the heavy -5000 betting favorite to be KD’s team next season.

The Phoenix Suns have been installed as the odds on favorite to land Kevin Durant if he decides to leave the Brooklyn Nets this offseason.

Rumors of Durant leaving the Nets have surfaced after Brooklyn’s first-round playoff exit. The uncertainty of Kyrie Irving’s future in Brooklyn is also linked to a possible KD exit. Durant re-signed with the Nets in 2021 with Irving and James Harden on the team. Harden is now gone and Irving could follow given his contract situation.

Suns Have the Pieces to Get a Deal Done

The Suns have emerged as a possible landing spot for Durant because the Suns have a possible problem with former top pick Deandre Ayton. Ayton and the Suns failed to agree on a contract extension during the current season which will make the Suns’ starting center a restricted free agent during the summer.

Because of this, the Suns could execute a sign-and-trade deal with the Nets offering Ayton plus draft picks and assets for Durant. It’s unclear right now if the Nets have an interest in Ayton but KD is close to Suns head coach Monty Williams who was one of the assistants in OKC when Durant was there.

Dallas is second on the Bovada odds board at +1600 but that’s if they have the contracts to make a deal, financially. KD has spoken about his fondness for Luka Doncic and the Mavs are coming off an appearance at the Western Conference Finals so Durant could agree to go to Phoenix. The Celtics, Warriors, and Raptors are next at +1800 while the Memphis Grizzlies are listed at +2000.

Could Durant be Leaving Brooklyn?

However, the list of possible Durant destinations will only come to play if KD does not stay in Brooklyn. According to Bovada, the Nets are still the -5000 betting favorites to be Durant’s team next season. If we convert those odds to implied probability, it would be equivalent to 98% which means there is only a 2% chance that he leaves.

But remember that James Harden was a -500 favorite not to be traded at the previous deadline. Harden ended up getting shipped by the Nets 1to Philadelphia for Ben Simmons. Durant came to Brooklyn to team up with Irving. If Irving leaves, and there is a legit chance that does give his history with the Brooklyn management, there’s a chance too that Durant leaves too.

The Nets entered the 2022 season as the preseason favorites to win the NBA title. Kyrie’s inability to play in home games early in the season proved to be costly for the Nets. Brooklyn needed to win in the play-in tournament just to enter the playoffs. Brooklyn ended up getting swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs.
