Dillashaw Survives Cory Sandhagen

Dillashaw has not fought since defeating Cory Sandhagen in his comeback fight at UFC Vegas 32 last July 24, 2021. The bout stands as Dillashaw’s only Octagon appearance since losing to Henry Cejudo in a failed attempt to win the UFC flyweight title at the main event of UFC Fight Night 143.

The 36-year-old Dillashaw first won the UFC bantamweight title by ending Renan Barao’s 32-fight unbeaten streak at UFC 173. Dillashaw lost the belt to Dominick Cruz after two successful title defenses. He recaptured the title three fights later by defeating Cody Garbrandt at UFC 217. Dillashaw was forced to relinquish the belt and was suspended for two years after failing a drug test.

Currently the no. 2 ranked bantamweight in the UFC, Dillashaw has a record of 17-4 with 8 knockouts and three submission victories. He is no stranger to being a betting underdog in big fights. Dillashaw was a +710 betting underdog when he shocked Barao at UFC 273. He was also the +180 bottom dog when he won the belt the second time against Garbrandt. Dillashaw also fought Sandhagen at +170 odds.

Sterling Guts Out Split Decision Win Over Petr Yan

Sterling is coming off a successful first title defense where he gutted out a split decision win over immediate former champion Petr Yan at UFC 273. Master Funk won the belt against Yan in controversial fashion at UFC 259 in March 2020. In that bout, Yan was disqualified after landing an illegal knee on Sterling.

The 32-year-old is a former Cage Fury Fighting Championship bantamweight champion and Ring of Combat bantamweight champion. He went 6-3 in his first nine UFC bouts but has won his last seven bouts, including the DQ win against Yan. After more than one year of controversy, Sterling was able to prove his worth by defeating Yan in a tightly fought contest.

Master Funk will be the betting favorite for the first time in a UFC title fight. He was the +310 betting underdog in his first bout with Yan and entered the fight at +300 odds in their rematch. Five bouts ago, Sterling was also the +120 bottom dog when he beat Jimmie Rivera in February 2019.
