The Under is the Popular Bet for Week 16 of the NFL Season

NFL Week 16 Current Total Trends-green And Black Background

  • Nine of the 16 Week 16 games have the UNDER with the majority of the betting tickets and handle.
  • The Patriots at Panthers game has seen 90% of the tickets and 99% of the money wagered on the UNDER.
  • Meanwhile, the Washington at Dallas game has 90% of the tickets and 97% of the handle placed on the OVER.

It has been the year of the UNDER in the NFL with the majority of the total scores this season going under the oddsmakers’ totals.

After the OVER went 10-4 in Week 14, the UNDER bounced back with an 11-5 last weekend.  According to the best NFL betting sites, the under is 124-98-2 or 55.9% for the season. In 12 of the first 15 weeks, the UNDER has ruled the betting handle while it has gotten the majority of the tickets in 9 of 15 weeks played so far.

This week, nine of the 16 total Week 16 games have seen the UNDER get the majority of the early betting tickets at Caesars Sportsbook. Meanwhile, 12 of those 16 games have the UNDER with the bulk of the total betting handle. The nine games where the UNDER won the battle of the tickets also saw them win the contest in the betting handle.

Bucs Banged Up in a Big Way

Of the 9 games where the UNDER has the majority of the tickets and betting handle, two games have more than 90% of both slips and money. The first on the list is the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers which has 90% of the tickets and 99% of the money wagered on the UNDER 44. That total opened at 47.5 last Sunday but with the Buccaneers banged up in a big way, it has seen the biggest drop among the Week 16 totals.

The Bucs lost Chris Godwin to an ACL injury and both Leonard Fournette and Mike Evans are suffering from hamstring injuries. Fournette is out for the regular season, and that’s the reason why the Bucs signed veteran Le’Veon Bell to add depth in the RB position. Linebacker Lavonte Davis is also expected to miss the rest of the regular season with a foot injury.

Meanwhile, the total of 47 points for the Cowboys vs Washington game has gotten 90% of the betting slips and 97% of the betting handle. The Cowboys have allowed 20 or fewer points in five out of their last six games and they lead the league in interceptions. Meanwhile, the Washington offense has sputtered, as they have scored 17 or fewer points in six out of their last nine games.

AFC North is Still Up for Grabs

On the other side of the fence, two Week 16 games have seen the betting tickets and handle go over 80% in the early Caesars tally. Leading the way is the Ravens at the Bengals game where 81% of the tickets and 97% of the money have been wagered on the OVER 45 total.

The Baltimore defense has had its share of issues this season and is ranked 20th in the league. Meanwhile, the offense has shown it can put up points to offset their defensive problems. Tyler Huntley has played well and the offense has flowed smoothly with him. With the AFC North still up for grabs, the Ravens and Bengals are expected to engage in a shootout to claim the prize.

The Rams at Vikings game has the highest total for the week at 49.5 points but the public has been pouncing on the OVER with 80% of the tickets and a whopping 99% of the dollars. The Rams are no. 5 in the league in scoring while the Vikings are no. 12 and these teams average a combined 52+ points this season.
