Thunder Post 6th Biggest Betting Upset of NBA Season Against Mavericks

OKC Thunder NBA Background

  • The OKC Thunder defeated the Dallas Mavericks 120-114 in OT on Wednesday night.
  • OKC entered the game as +12 point spread and +550 Moneyline Underdogs.
  • That win stands as the 6th biggest betting upset of the 2021-22 NBA season.

There hasn’t been much to cheer about for the OKC Thunder this season.

At 16-34 SU on the season, the Thunder have the second-worst record in the Western Conference and the 4th worst record in the league overall. They entered Wednesday’s game at Dallas coming off a loss to the Orlando Magic, the team with the worst record in the NBA this season. OKC also played without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

So it wasn’t a surprise why they were +12 points and +550 Moneyline underdogs to Luka Doncic and the Mavs who were without Kristaps Porzingis.

But surprise, surprise. The Thunder stunned the Mavericks 120-114 in OT, producing the 6th biggest upset in the NBA this season.

Two Stupid Decisions

Luka Doncic had a big night with 40 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists in 43 minutes of playing time. He knocked down 16-33 shots, including 5-12 from behind the three-point line. However, Doncic blamed himself for the loss with two ‘stupid decisions’ in the final two possessions of regulation.

Luka was talking about Kenrich Williams beating him out on a cup for a layup that tied the game at 103 all with 7.5 seconds left in the 4th period and him missing the potential game-winner from the left-wing as time expired. The miss sent the game to OT where it was all OKC and nearly all Lu Dort.

Dort was the man in OT. Not only did he hit the dagger three-pointer, but he also scored14 consecutive points and outscored the entire Mavs team 14-11 in the extra session. Dort also held Doncic to 0-6 shooting while moving to second overall in Thunder history for most points scored in OT and most consecutive OT points scored.

Top 5 Biggest Upsets of the Season

Indiana’s 121-117 win over the Golden State Warriors on January 20, 2022 stands as the second-largest betting upset of the 2021-22 NBA season with the Pacers listed as +16.5 points spread and +1100 Moneyline underdogs against the Dubs. The L.A. Clippers’ New Year’s Day win over the Brooklyn Nets ranks third overall as the Clippers were a +14 points and +850 Moneyline bottom dogs.

One day before the Pacers beat the Dubs, the Houston Rockets stunned the Utah Jazz as +13 point spread and +750 betting underdogs. That stands as the 4th biggest betting upset of the season, giving January 2022 the distinction of hosting the Top 4 biggest betting upsets of the season. No. 5 on the list is the November 26, 2021 win of the New Orleans Pelicans over the Utah Jazz as +13.5 point spread and +592 Moneyline underdogs.
