Then in the featured game of the evening, the 2020 champions Los Angeles Lakers, 2nd in the odds boards at +400, hosted the Golden State Warriors who have the 4th shortest championship odds at +900.

The result? The top two betting favorites to win the 2022 NBA title lost their respective opening day assignments.

Bucks -1.5 Beat the Nets by 23 Points

In the first game of the season, the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks showed why they are, well, the defending champions. Milwaukee didn’t let the pre-game ring ceremony distract them from their task at hand. Entering the game as -1.5 point betting favorites, the relentless Bucks roughed up the NBA championship betting favorites Brooklyn Nets by a whopping margin of 23 points, 127-104.

2021 NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo picked up where he left off last season. In his first game since scoring 50 points in last season’s title-clinching Game 6, Antetokounmpo scored 34 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and issued seven assists to lead the Bucks. With that dominant performance, the Greek Freak moved from +800 to win the MVP at BetMGM on October 16th to +550 in the said sportsbook’s latest odds board.

The Bucks meanwhile, remained third in the NBA championship betting boards. Milwaukee is currently listed at +700 at the BetOnline App with only the Nets at +250 and the Lakers t +400 having shorter odds than them. Milwaukee continues its title defense bid on Thursday as -1.5 point betting favorites when they visit the Miami Heat on Thursday.

Triple Double…by Steph Curry

In the nightcap, the Golden State Warriors opened their 2021-22 NBA season with a big win over the Western Conference betting favorites Los Angeles Lakers. The Dubs let the Warriors lead for the most part of the game before finishing with a strong 4th quarter and winning the game outright 121-114, as +3.5 point spread and +140 Moneyline betting underdogs.

Steph Curry had an uncharacteristically poor shooting night as he made 5-21 shots including 2-8 from behind the three-point arc. He, however, finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for his first triple-double since January 22, 2016. If you are a fan of prop bets, Curry was a +2500 at Barstool Sports and an even longer +5000 at Caesars Sportsbook to record a triple-double on Tuesday night.

Golden State’s championship odds stayed at +900 via BetMGM and the BetOnline App. The Warriors also remained at +1200 to win the NBA title at the Barstool Sportsbook. The Dubs will also remain in Los Angeles as they will play the L.A. Clippers at Staples Center on Thursday night. The Dubs are currently three-point betting favorites to win that game at online sportsbook SportsBetting.ag.
