Utah Jazz Still Heavy Favorites in Northwest Division But Nuggets Have Value

Utah Jazz NBA Background

  • The Utah Jazz are just 3-10 SU in their last 10 games played.
  • Utah is currently three games up on the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference and Northwest Division team standings.
  • The Jazz are a massive -553 to win the division but at +350, it’s the Nuggets that have value.

The Utah Jazz have been out of tune since the start of 2022.

Injuries and player absences have stalled Utah’s strong start. The Jazz opened the season with just nine losses in their first 35 games played and were the early no. 3 ranked team in the West behind the Warriors and Suns. But with the Jazz going just 6-12 in 2022, they have been overtaken by Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. Now they could be in danger of being passed by Division rivals Denver.

Easy Cover Against the Nets

The Jazz are coming off an easy 125-102 win and cover against the depleted Brooklyn Nets last February 4th. But although they have won two in a row, Utah is just 3-7 SU in their last 10 games played. The Jazz are currently in 4th place in the Western Conference team standings with their 32-21 record, don’t forget that the Jazz closed out 2021 with a record of 26-9. That means that they have won just six games in 2022 while already losing 12 games this year. Utah is also just 5-11 ATS during that stretch.

With their recent struggles, the Jazz are just 1.5 games up on the Dallas Mavericks in the team standings and just 3 games up on the Denver Nuggets in both the Western Conference leaderboard and the Northwest Division. The Nuggets have their own injury woes with Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. but with Nikola Jokic coming on strong, Denver is keeping itself within striking distance of the Jazz.

As far as championship odds are concerned, the Jazz and Nuggets are still miles apart. Utah still has the 6th best odds to win the 2022 NBA title at +1400 while the best NBA betting sites have Denver at +3000. The same goes with the latest Northwest Division betting boards where Utah is listed at -553 and Denver at +350 via Bovada. Now, these latest Divisional Odds are interesting.

Nuggets Within Striking Distance

With Sunday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Denver Nuggets improved to 29-24 SU on the season and they are just 3 games behind the Jazz in both the Western Conference and Northwest Division team standings right now. Denver hasn’t been really red hot but at 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played, the Nuggets are most certainly playing betting than the Jazz right now.

Denver’s success can be attributed to reigning MVP Nikola Jokic who has climbed in the NBA MVP betting boards with his consistent and strong play. Joel Embiid continues to be the favorite at +200 but Jokic is now listed at +260 via Bet365 USA. On Sunday, Jokic posted his league-leading 14th triple-double of the season against the Nets, doing so while playing in only 29 minutes.

The Nuggets have an easier strength of remaining schedule with their remaining 29 opponents having an aggregate winning percentage of .493 while the Jazz’s final 29 foes have a slightly better aggregate win percentage at .502. With Utah continuing to miss Gobert, the Nuggets have the chance to make up more ground, and that’s the reason why at +350 to win the Northwest Division, there’s definitely solid betting value of the Nuggets right now.
