Vicente Luque will be the betting favorite when he faces Geoff Neal at UFC Vegas 59 on August 6th.

The Silent Assassin has opened as the -175 odds on favorite to beat Neal who debuted as the slight +150 betting underdog.

Luque and Neal are set to co-headline the event which will be held at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. A light heavyweight bout between Thiago Santos and Jamahal Hill has been booked as the main event.

Belal Muhammad Gets Revenge Versus Vicente Luque

Luque saw a four-fight winning streak end at the hands of Belal Muhammad in their rematch at the main event of UFC Vegas 51 last April 16th. Before that setback, Luque had won 10 out of his previous 11 bouts, losing only to Stephen Thompson at UFC 244 in 2019.

The 30-year-old from Westwood, New Jersey is the UFC’s no. 6 ranked welterweight. He began his career in Brazil’s regional circuits before joining The Ultimate Fighter 21 tournament in 2014. Luque made it all the way to the semifinals where he lost to Hayder Hassan. Overall, Luque has a record of 21-8 with 11 knockouts and 8 submission wins. His finish rate of 92.6% ( 13 stoppages in 14 wins ) inside the UFC Octagon is second-best in the history of the promotion.

Luque has never opened with the plus money sign written next to his name but was the minus money underdog in the opening odds boards when he fought Stephen Thompson. That bout was the only time in Luque’s career where he closed with the plus money sign and did so at even money odds. Luque was the -200 favorite when he lost to Muhammad in his last bout.

Geoff Neal Cashed as +114 Underdog Against Santiago Ponzinibbio

Neal cashed as the +114 betting underdog when he picked up the decision victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 269 last December 11th. That victory ended a two-fight losing skid which saw the 31-year-old from Austin, Texas dropped consecutive unanimous decisions to Stephen Thompson and Neal Magny.

The 13th-ranked welterweight in the UFC once challenged for the XKO middleweight title and fought under LFA before joining the Contender Series in 2017 where his TKO win over Chase Waldon earned him a UFC contract. Neal is 7-2 since his DWCS appearance and has an overall record of 14-4 with 8 knockouts and two submission victories.

This marks only the third time in Neal’s career that he has opened as an underdog although it’s only the second time where he debuted at plus money odds. He was the -105 underdog in the opening line against Stephen Thompson and was the +100 bottom dog when he faced Waldon at the Contender Series.
