Zalatoris in Search of First PGA Tour Win
Plano’s Will Zalatoris is still in search of his first PGA Tour win. The scorching run of his friend Scottie Scheffler — who also entered the year winless — serves as motivation.

Plano’s Zalatoris is still in search of his maiden PGA Tour win and this could be the week he picks up that elusive first win. He knows TPC Craig Ranch better than many golfers, having grown up playing this golf course while logging in more than 100 rounds here. Zalatoris also has the metrics to excel here. He ranks first in strokes gained on approach and in the Top 5 in strokes gained off the tee in his last 24 rounds played.
Since earning his full-time card last season, Zalatoris has produced 13 Top 10 finishes and a pair of runner-up finishes, including one earlier this year at Torrey Pines against a stacked field. His last three events have ended in a T-4, T-6 (at the Masters), and T-5 finishes.
Zalatoris’ putter has held him back many times and deprived him of his first win on the Tour. But he is second this year on the Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green, which means he will always have plenty of birdie looks. If he just putts average this week, he’ll definitely be in the mix to get the victory.

Zalatoris’ good friend and world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the odds on favorite to win the tournament at the best golf betting sites and is the second most popular bet at BetMGM with 8.2% of the tickets and 11.1% of the betting handle. Scheffler has won four out of his last six non-team events played, including the Masters and the WGC-Matchplay while finishing T-7 in the other two.
Jordan Spieth at +2200 is the third-most-popular bet with 7.1% of the total betting tickets. The University of Texas product has not played well in this event but after it moved to TPC Craig Ranch last year, Spieth earned his best finish at T-9. He should also be very confident heading to the tournament after winning the RBC Heritage.
Justin Thomas has the third-highest betting handle at 7.3%. JT has the second-shortest odds to win the tournament at +1200. JT is arguably the best ball-striker, iron player, and scorer on the field. He ranks first in the field in strokes gained on approach from 200-plus yards and is second in the field in birdie or better percentage.
