Wolves, Hornets Go Over the Season’s Highest Over/Under Total on Tuesday Night

All Eyes North Hornets-and Timberwolves Background

  • The Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets went over the 244 total set for their Tuesday game at Minnesota.
  • Minnesota defeated Charlotte 126-120 in overtime in only their 5th win in 125 games when trailing by 10+ points in the 4th quarter.
  • The 244 total was the highest over/under total so far this season.

Sportsbooks were quick to point out that the Minnesota Timberwolves game against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night had the highest over/under betting total of the season:

Despite that, the Wolves and Hornets were unfazed as they breached that total by two points. Sure, the teams needed the overtime period where they scored 30 combined points to cash the OVER. Still, it was one of the best offensive displays of the year and a big win for the upstart Timberwolves.

Wolves Second-Best OVER Team in the NBA

The Wolves entered Tuesday’s game as the second-best OVER team in the NBA with a record of 35-22. But they weren’t particularly a stand-out OVER team at home this season at 12-15 record or 44.4% OVER rate at home and an 8-10 OVER record or also 44.4% OVER rate as home favorites.

Meanwhile, the Hornets had an over record 29-29 or 50% OVER rate and an OVER record of 13-10 or 53% cover rate in non-conference games. Charlotte’s OVER record was 17-15 on the road or 53.1% OVER rate and just and 11-14 44.4% OVER mark as road underdogs.

However, when you put the no.4 scoring team in the NBA in the Wolves who are averaging 113.6 points per game on the season, and the Hornets who are the no. 2 scoring team at 113.6 points per game this campaign, you are bound to have a track meet. Factor in the fact that these two teams rank in the bottom 8 in scoring defense in the league this season, there was little to no doubt that these teams would give the total a run for its money, even if it was the highest of the year.

Alpha Wolf Powers Minnesota

Prior to Tuesday night, the Hornets had a record of 4-125 in the last four seasons when trailing by 10+ points in the 4th quarter. However, they were able to rally from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit against the Hornets to force overtime, and then pull off the victory in the extra period.

Karl Anthony Towns backpacked the Timberwolves in the last minute and a half of regulation and the overtime period with 13 points scored during that stretch. KAT would finish the game with 39 points and 15 rebounds as Minnesota survived the absence of Anthony Edwards who sat out the entire second half and OT with a right ankle sprain.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 31-27 SU on the season to keep themselves afloat in the playoff race. Minnesota is currently 7th in the West, 1.5 games behind the 6th seeded Nuggets, and 3 games up on the 8th seeded Clippers. If they continue their strong play, they might just beat the best NBA betting sites who gave them a +600 odds to make the playoffs at the start of the season.
