49ers vs. Bears Pick – NFL Week 13

It was a dismal showing on Thursday night from the Washington Redskins. That stop unit looked brutal and they really let us down. That was an unfortunate result for Washington, and it likely puts their already slim playoff hopes on thin ice.

In other action, bye weeks are over finally in the NFL – so there’s some good variety out there in the early slate of games. And though the 49ers and Bears are two pretty bad football teams, there is some intrigue surrounding this match-up as it marks the debut of Jimmy Garoppolo as San Francisco’s starting QB. He’ll go up against Mitch Trubisky for Chicago, and it should be good fun to watch these two young quarterbacks go toe-to-toe in an otherwise meaningless game.

49ers vs. Bears Pick:

Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be a pretty big upgrade over C.J. Beathard at the quarterback position. The Niners will have some success moving the football on Sunday, but not much. Chicago’s defense is surprisingly good, and it will be getting even better in Week 13 as they are slated to welcome back linebacker Danny Trevathan back from injury. The Bears have looked lost without their top linebacker, and he should be able to settle down the unit and help them be more organized out there on the field come Sunday afternoon.

Garoppolo will find out quickly he has very few passing options downfield. Their receiving corps is not good, and San Francisco often turns the ball to their running game led by the solid Carlos Hyde. That said, things will be tough for Hyde here in Week 13 as Trevathan is excellent in stifling opposing running attacks and I’d also expect San Fran’s offensive line to get dominated by the big interior of the Bears’ defensive line. Downfield, Marquise Goodwin will be blanketed by Prince Amukamara. Moving the chains will be tough for San Francisco on Sunday.

Last week the Bears’ offense was wildly disappointing against Philadelphia. Though the Eagles are a lot better than Chicago, you would have thought that Chicago’s offense could have done something. This week however it’s likely going to be the polar opposite as the Niners rank near the bottom of the NFL in almost every major defensive category. They cannot stop the run, so look for Jordan Howard to have a monster game – and this should in turn help set up Trubisky’s passing attack downfield. The 49ers also have a bunch of useless linebackers, and Chicago should be able to exploit this with regularity. Dontrelle Inman has been a revelation in recent weeks for the Bears, and he should be able to put up some impressive numbers on Sunday.

I like Chicago here to bounce back in a big way following last week’s collapse against the Eagles. This is a team heading in the right direction, still playing with a lot of pride. Their defense will stifle Jimmy Garoppolo and probably make him wish he was still on the sidelines.

PICK = Bears -3 (-110)
