San Francisco 49ers vs New England Patriots Week 7 Pick – NFL October 25

The NFL is set up with another action packed Sunday this week. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout October 25. One of those games will be between the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots. These two teams have struggled a bit to open up this season, but will look to earn a big win on Sunday. This game will kick off at around 4:25 PM Eastern time.

San Francisco has earned a record of 3-3 to open up the new season, which has them in fourth place of the NFC West. The 49ers have struggled with injuries this season, which has hurt their chances to make it back to the Super Bowl. San Francisco will look to get back to above .500 with a win on Sunday afternoon though. Look for the 49ers to carry some momentum over from their last win.

The Patriots have posted a record of 2-3 to start out the new season, which has them in third place of the AFC East. New England has struggled a bit with the departure of Tom Brady and are below .500 early in the season. The Patriots still have a chance to get back into the playoff picture, but need to avoid dropping their third game in a row. New England will look to bounce back with a win in this one.

These two teams have had disappointing starts this season after strong seasons last season. These two teams find themselves in the bottom half of competitive divisions, which will lead to an interesting one on Sunday afternoon. Both teams desperately need a win in this one to keep pace in the division, which should lead to a good game in the second half of action on October 25.

Previous Matchups

The 49ers met up with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football last week. Jimmy Garoppolo threw three touchdown passes early as San Francisco jumped out to a 21-6 lead. Jared Goff threw two touchdowns in the loss as he tried to lead the Rams back into it. The 49ers were able to hold off Los Angeles though to win 24-16 on the road.

New England is coming off a game against the Denver Broncos in Week 6. Cam Newton had a rushing touchdown, while Nick Folk went 2-2 on field goal attempts. It was not enough though for the Patriots. Brandon McManus had a busy day, going 6-6 on field goal attempts as the Broncos were able to earn a 18-12 win over New England.

San Francisco’s defense was able to step up in Week 6 to earn a big win against the Rams to get back to .500. The Patriots could not break through on the Broncos defense. New England was able to play good “bend don’t break” defense to keep Denver from scoring a touchdown. The Patriots will need to get some offense going in this one though if they want to avoid their third straight loss.

Quarterback Comparison

Jimmy Garoppolo will lead the 49ers out on the field in this one as the starting Quarterback. Garoppolo has had a tough season as he battled through an early injury. He has thrown for 735 yards, 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this season. Last week, Garoppolo went 23-33 for 268 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions to lead San Francisco to the win.

Cam Newton is the starting Quarterback for the New England Patriots this season. Newton battled COVID-19 earlier in the season, but is back. Newton has thrown for 871 yards, 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Newton has rushed for 225 yards and 5 touchdowns though. Newton went 17-25 for 157 yards and 2 interceptions in the loss last week. He did rush for 76 yards and a touchdown though.

Garoppolo has been the better Quarterback passing throughout this season, but Newton has been back to his duel threat ways rushing for 5 touchdowns. The 49ers will look for their offense to carry momentum over from their last game, while New England needs to figure out their offensive issues. If Newton can bounce back in this one though, it will give the Patriots a good chance to earn the win.

Defensive Battle

San Francisco’s offense has struggled a bit throughout this season so far. The 49ers are averaging around 25 points per game this season. San Francisco’s offense has also averaged 368.5 yards per game this season. The 49ers have allowed an average of 22 points and 321 yards on defense throughout this season. San Francisco will look for their defense to continue to lead them.

The Patriots offense has also been inconsistent throughout this season. New England is averaging 22 points per game throughout this season. The Patriots have gained an average of 274.5 yards per game. New England’s defense has been solid though. The Patriots are allowing an average of 22 points per game and 339 yards per game.

Both of these teams have been inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball but have found rhythm in their defenses. If either offense can get going early in this one, it could be enough to give their team the edge. Look for both offenses to mix things up early in this one. I think New England could look to do some trick plays to help their offense move the ball down the field.

Pick Overview

The Patriots have struggled, dropping their last two games, but I expect them to bounce back at home against San Francisco. New England is coming off a really disappointing loss, which I think will give them some motivation in this one. If Cam Newton can bounce back after a tough performance through the air, I think he can outduel Jimmy Garoppolo for a win on Sunday afternoon.

BetOnline has New England listed as a -2 ½ against the spread in this one, which implies that the Patriots have a slight edge over the 49ers. I agree with this line as New England is at home and this should give them the edge. Neither team has been consistent this season, so if either team can jump out to a hot start, I believe it will be enough for them to earn the big win.
