Two teams trending in vastly different directions will take the field in the Motor City on Sunday as Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals will look to bounce back against the lowly Detroit Lions.
Dan Campbell and his Lions enter at 1-11-1 on the season, and though they’ve been close in many games, the talent disparity between these clubs should be pretty noticeable.
The Cards will enter a surly bunch following a tough loss at home last week to the L.A. Rams. They’ve just lost DeAndre Hopkins for the remainder of the season, and that will likely put a lot of pressure on Kyler Murray to secure a first-round bye for the 11-2 Cardinals. In order to do that, they’ll need to take care of fairly routine business on Sunday afternoon.

Cardinals officially placed WR DeAndre Hopkins on injured reserve and activated RB Chase Edmonds, who is expected to play Sunday at Detroit.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions Prediction:
Although it wasn’t the start the Cardinals and Kyler Murray were looking for their last time out against the Rams, Los Angeles does things on defense that Detroit can’t come close to replicating. And even though the Cards are slated to be without DeAndre Hopkins at wideout, Arizona still boasts enough key pieces on offense to overwhelm a badly depleted Lions’ stop unit.
Without the pressure of Aaron Donald in his face, look for Murray to be calmer and more patient under centre. Detroit’s defensive front is porous and generates virtually nothing on opposing throwers, and that should lead to the Cards keeping the chains moving.
Detroit also had to shut down a key player of their own, tight end TJ Hockensen. The big pass catcher was a key cog in this limited Detroit attack, and without him this Lions’ offense could struggle when throwing the ball. Arizona’s defense remains exceptional, and will make things very difficult on Detroit, particularly in the middle of the field.
It’s tough to envision a route for the Lions when it comes to securing first-downs and scoring points. With no real playmakers against a stout defense, a motivated Arizona team will be eager to promptly get back on track and secure their footing in a tight NFC post-season battle.

Cardinals vs. Lions Trends To Know:
- Cardinals are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss.
- Cardinals are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
- Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game.
- Lions are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
- Under is 10-1 in Cardinals last 11 games on fieldturf.
Following a tough loss on Monday night, the Cardinals will enter Detroit primed to take out their frustrations on this lowly Lions squad. Arizona has bounced back well under Kliff Kingsbury and an undefeated road record shows the mettle of this Cardinals’ attack. Detroit will have no answer for Arizona’s offense, and this could be a contest where we see reserves in by the third quarter. Expect Arizona in a rout to cover this big number.
