Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons Week 3 Pick – NFL September 27

The NFL kicks off another busy Sunday of action as fourteen games are up on the board throughout Sunday. One of these games will be between the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. These two teams have had opposite starts to the season but can earn a big win in Week 3. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Bears have earned a record of 2-0 to start out the new season, which has them in second place of the NFC North. Chicago finished last season at 8-8 and have a much more promising start to this season. The Bears had two nice wins to open up this season but will face more of a test against the Falcons in Week 3. Look for Chicago to come out strong as they try and jump to 3-0.

Atlanta finished out last season with a record of 7-9. This season the Falcons have started out 0-2, which has them tied for last place in the NFC South. Atlanta had a heartbreaking defeat in their Week 2 game, and they need to shake it off early in this one. If the Falcons can come out strong and keep up the pace, they should be able to win a big one at home.

These two teams have gone in opposite directions to start out this season after finishing around .500 a season ago. Atlanta had a prime chance to go 1-1 but blew a huge lead late in Week 2. Now the Falcons will be looking for some revenge as they face the Bears. Chicago will look to prove they are a legitimate playoff contender with a big win on the road.

Previous Matchups

The Bears faced the New York Giants in Chicago in Week 2. Mitchell Trubisky threw two touchdowns in the first half as Chicago took a 17-0 lead. New York’s defense shutout the Bears in the second half though. Dion Lewis ran in a touchdown and the Giants found themselves in the Redzone late but came up short. The Bears came up with a 17-13 win to go 2-0.

Atlanta met up with the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas last week. Matt Ryan threw four touchdown passes, including two to Calvin Ridley. The Falcons jumped out to a 29-10 lead. Dak Prescott ran for three touchdowns, while passing for another. The Cowboys pulled off a miracle onside kick to get a last-minute field goal. Dallas finished with the 40-39 win.

The Falcons blew a huge lead in Week 2, while Chicago almost blew a lead of their own. New York had a chance to take the lead but ran out of time. Now the Bears will look to prove themselves with a win over Atlanta. The Falcons offense found a way to get going in Week 2, but their defense could not make the big stops. Look for Atlanta to try and make some adjustments on defense coming into this one.

Quarterback Comparison

The Bears have Mitchell Trubisky starting under center for them. Trubisky finished last season with 3138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also ran for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns. This season Trubisky has stepped up in the first two weeks. He has thrown for 432 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Atlanta has a very capable Quarterback in Matt Ryan as their starter. Ryan had a solid season last season. He threw for 4466 yards, 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Ryan has started off this season well, throwing for 723 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception. Ryan will need his defense to step up if the Falcons want to earn a win in Week 3.

These two Quarterbacks have had solid starts to the season, but it has been Matt Ryan who has been a little bit better. Ryan has also proven himself much more throughout his career, where as Trubisky has struggled to step up. Trubisky can prove himself in this one though if he can outduel a high powered Falcons offense.

Offense vs Defense

Chicago has been known for their dominant defense, which has done a good job not allowing points this season. The Bears have allowed 36 points this season, which is second best in the NFL. Chicago has allowed 721 yards though, which is middle of the league. The Bears will need to keep up the “bend don’t break” defense against the Falcons if they want to win.

The Falcons offense has been doing well this season, but their defense has not. Atlanta has allowed 78 points and 953 yards, which is worst in the NFL so far this season. The Falcons have scored 64 points and gained 886 yards, which if fourth in the NFL this season. Atlanta needs to tighten up their defense a lot if they want to knock off this Chicago team at home.

Atlanta’s offense will have a good test this week as they go up against the Bears. If Chicago’s defense can shut down the Falcons, I believe that the Bears could be able to earn the win in this one. If the Falcons offense breaks through though and makes this a higher scoring affair, I really like Atlanta. Chicago got shut down by New York last week and I think the Falcons will exploit their offense this week.

Pick Overview

Atlanta has had a tough start to the season, going 0-2, but I believe they will earn a big win at home against the Bears. Chicago had a comeback against a weak Detroit Lions team and barely beat the New York Giants. I have not been super impressed by the Bears yet and I like the Falcons to give them their first loss of the season.

BetOnline has Atlanta listed as a -3 against the spread in this one. This gives a slight edge to the Falcons at home. I believe that this is a fair line. The Bears have not proven they are a legit contender yet, which makes them as underdogs make sense. I expect Atlanta to come out strong after blowing a big lead in Week 2 against the Cowboys.
