Thanksgiving Thursday is one of the best days of the NFL season. The triple-header of football always receives a ton of fanfare and rightfully so. The unofficial start to the Holiday season is upon us, and with that so is crunch time in the NFL. We’ll begin in the state of Michigan on Thursday as the Detroit Lions will seek a share of the top spot in the NFC North as they host the lowly Chicago Bears. While Chicago is coming off a win and the Lions a loss, these remain two teams headed for opposite fortunes in 2014. The Bears have been a disaster and a disappointment since the season began, while Detroit has been a pleasant surprise. The Lions play excellent defense and will be hungry to deliver their fans a victory after last week’s no-show in Foxboro. It’s always a spirited affair in this rivalry match-up so read on below for our full breakdown and featured wager to start the day off right!

Bears vs. Lions Pick:
Even though Detroit is currently enjoying a fairly successful season, with hopes of the playoffs still alive, their past two games have been clunkers. For a team with such firepower, the Lions are averaging just 15 points in their past two games and haven’t topped 24 since Week 1. Well folks, I’ve got a Thanksgiving guarantee for you. Today, they’ll top 24 because the Bears defense is simply abysmal. The Bears will be without their top corner in Kyle Fuller and as a result the Stafford-to-Megatron connection will be in fine form Thursday afternoon. Both Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate should have easy afternoons against a pretty soft secondary. Chicago is still a mess defensively, and a team possessing the types of threats the Lions do should eventually overwhelm the Bears.
On offense for Chicago I don’t think things will go much better for them. While Jay Cutler remains a fairly talented performer, it’s no secret he has struggled of late. He’s had far too many turnovers this year and his recent issues with accuracy have left fans throughly displeased. While he is better than his recent form, it’s going to be hard to rediscover that against one the NFL’s best overall defensive units. Regardless of last week vs. the red hot Patriots, Detroit is forceful up front and should abuse the Chicago offensive line. Look for their interior to disrupt Cutler quite frequently, forcing the maligned QB into a wealth of mistakes.
To put it simply, the Lions offense will steamroll the Bears defense, while the Bears talented but inconsistent offense will run into problems against the Lions complete defense. As a result, don’t overthink things – roll with the convincing Lions victory in this contest. It’s a big, big game for Detroit as they’ll be looking for a confident bounceback following Sunday’s stinker in New England. They’ll need as many divisional victories as possible for playoff seeding purposes, and will come through on Thanksgiving Thursday. While it seems simply, sometimes the simple play is the right one, and that’s the way I feel going into this game. The Bears are still being evaluated on the potential of their roster. But don’t be fooled – this is a mess of a team that will shy away from the intensity the Lions will bring. Look for Detroit to win big today.
PICK = Lions -7 (-115)
