Remember back in the summer when everyone took a look at the Bills’ offense and cringed? The offense had no weapons other than Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy. However, the Bills have put together a nice season that has exceeded most expectations. Here they are in Week 17, and we’re talking about talking about how the Bills are on the cusp of the postseason. At 8-6, the Bills could squeeze in as a wildcard.
They’re going to need to win and get some help elsewhere. It’s never a nice feeling knowing that a win here may be meaningless, but it’s out of their control at this point. For the Bills to reach the postseason, they have to win and get a Ravens loss, or a Chargers loss and Titans loss. In other words, even if they win it isn’t going to be an easy road to a wildcard.
The Dolphins at 6-9, are just looking to throw a roadblock up to stop the Bills. Teams with nothing to lose can sometimes be the most dangerous, especially if it’s against a divisional foe. The Dolphins have had a couple of ugly performances in a row, dropping decisions to the Chiefs and Bills. The Dolphins and Bills just played two weeks ago in Buffalo, a 26-14 game for the Bills. It was a big game, as it sets up a potential chance to reach the postseason this week. A win over the Patriots would have really hoped, but the Patriots are the Patriots and they kept on powering forward.
For the Dolphins, this was about how the season was expected to go. It didn’t take a football expert to predict that the Dolphins would be a 6-10 or 7-9 team this year. They have been stuck in this bubble of below averageness for the last decade, and I don’t see it changing next season. Ryan Tannehill, barring any setbacks, will be the starter for the Dolphins in 2018. They could trade him, but I don’t know who’s willing to take on his contract. Cutler said he still wants to play, however won’t entertain the idea of a backup role. In other words, he’s done unless another team wants him to start. Bills vs. Dolphins Pick:
The Bills have to keep things in perspective and just treat this like another football game. If they get too amped up, that’s usually when the other team can take advantage. It’s hard to believe that this team was able to keep it together after Tyrod Taylor was benched, though. If you recall, Taylor was benched in favor of Nathan Peterman and the results were disastrous. It had the potential to throw a wrench in their locker room, but they ultimately kept it together, and Taylor came back to captain the ship.
Taylor has played exceptionally well against the Dolphins in his career. Note that he has passed for 9 touchdowns and no interceptions, along with a completion percentage of 65 percent. In their last meeting, he threw for 224 yards and a touchdown. Taylor also ran for 42 yards and a touchdown on the ground. In typical Bills’ fashion, it may make sense that the game they really need him to play big, the Dolphins’ defense clamps down.
The Dolphins have scored just 29 points in total their last two games. The Bills’ defense did a nice job limiting Cutler to 274 yards and 3 interceptions. The last win for the Dolphins came against none other than the New England Patriots. Miami has been a much better team at home than on the road, which is where they beat the Pats by a score of 27-20. The Dolphins have gone 4-2 at home, including a close call against the Raiders, 27-24.
The home team has actually gone 6-2 against the spread in their last eight meetings. Absolutely nobody is going to like the Dolphins here. The game is pointless for them, while the Bills have everything to lose. So, then, why is the line on this game so short. Buffalo have been awful on the road, going 2-5 with losses against the Bengals and Jets on the resume. Having to win doesn’t always equate to a win. After losing to the Bills just two weeks ago, I think the Dolphins are going to come to play on Sunday. Vegas might make a few bucks off this one.
