Broncos vs. Colts Pick – NFL Week 9

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend, Peyton Manning returns back to where it all began in Indianapolis to face the Colts. While Manning isn’t quite what he used to be, or so we thought, I’ll get to that later. And while the Colts are 3-5, there is always a certain feeling in the air when Manning meets up to play the Colts. I think a lot of people thought his career was just about done when he left the Colts, but he found a new home in Denver and got really comfortable. This season the Broncos don’t need to rely on Manning saving the day. In fact, Manning can just manage the game and let his defense go to work. Against the Packers last week, the Broncos proved that their defense is for real. It was the best offense they played all year and they made Aaron Rodgers look like an average quarterback. Despite the struggles of Andrew Luck in 2015, the Broncos face another good quarterback this week on the road in Indianapolis.

Luck made some bad decisions last week on MNF. I don’t know even know what he was thinking on some of those interceptions, gift wrapping points straight to the Carolina Panthers. The Colts came back though and nearly won that game. After all of the mistakes the Colts made, they almost pulled it off. As it was, the Colts ended up getting downed by a score of 29-26. The Panthers have another test on their plate this week against the Broncos. At 3-5 the Colts could go on a run and get right back into the thick of things. However, the record is beside the point, because the Colts haven’t looked very good. They could be at .500 and I would be skeptical.

A win over the Broncos on Sunday though would go a long way to turning their season around. I can already tell what the headlines will be if the Colts win this one. Luck hasn’t looked good and he needs to go up against one of the best defenses in the NFL this week, however. It isn’t going to be easy for the Colts, but there is still talent on this team, and talent wise Andrew Luck is still Andrew Luck. He’s a good quarterback and I foresee him bouncing back eventually. If he can pull it off today, look for him to light it up the rest of the schedule. Like I said though, it isn’t going to be the easiest against the Bronco defense.

Broncos vs. Colts Pick:

Slowing down the Packers isn’t the easiest either, and the Broncos did just that. The Packers scored only 10 points in the Broncos’ win. It wasn’t much of a competitive game, as the Broncos won it 29-10. Manning played the best we’ve seen from him this season. He finished with 340 yards passing with an interception. He didn’t throw a touchdown, but he was accurate and looking like the Peyton Manning of old. If he can keep that up, the Broncos are going to be ultra-dangerous. This is a strong defense with no holes to be seen. The Broncos rank 1st in the NFL, allowing 261.1 yards per game. They also give up just 16 points per game. With playmakers like DeMarcus Ware, Von Miller, and Aqib Talib, the defense is stacked in that regard.

To find the Indianapolis Colts’ defense you need to go all the way down the list of NFL teams to find them. The Colts are 30th in the NFL defensively. Manning looked good last week, but I don’t expect him to look like that all the time. As far as I know he didn’t get a new arm last week. Taking the Broncos in this game looks like the squarest bet on the board this week. The Colts and Andrew Luck ineptness has been on full display this season. Meanwhile, we just seen the Broncos shut Aaron Rodgers down on Sunday night. The following night the Colts lost to the Panthers. The Broncos haven’t blown anybody out on the road this season. The biggest win they had was a 12 point win over the Lions. Who are, if you haven’t heard, a mess. They also struggled against the Raiders and Browns, beating the Browns in overtime. I see this as a closely contested game that comes down to a field goal.

PICK: COLTS +5.5 (-110)
