The NFL is set up with another great week of football kicking off on Thursday. The Denver Broncos and the New York Jets will kick us off in Week 4 in a battle between winless teams. These two teams have had rough starts to the new season but will look to get back on track with a big win. This game will kick off at around 8:20 PM Eastern time on Thursday night.
The Broncos have gone 0-3 to start out the new season, which has them in sole possession of last place in the AFC West. Denver finished with last season with a record of 7-9. The Broncos are coming off a tough loss and will look to bounce back with a win over the struggled Jets. Look for Denver to control this game in the running game early.
New York has also gone 0-3 so far this season, which has them in last place of the AFC East. The Jets finished out the last season with a record of 7-9 as well, which had them in third place of the AFC East. New York has been embarrassed so far this season but will look to put that behind them in Week 4. I expect New York to clean up their game as they face Denver on Thursday Night Football.
These two teams have had starts to forget, but each team has a chance to get in the win column on Thursday night. Each team will look to get an early lead as they have struggled to get anything going this season. The Broncos have been in more of their games, while New York has been embarrassed time and time again. Look for the Jets to try and start out clean this time though.
Denver is coming off a matchup in which they hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jeff Driskel threw for 176 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes to Mike Evans and another one to Chris Godwin. The Buccaneers defense also earned a safety as Tampa Bay dominated for a 28-10 win on the road.
The Jets met up with the Indianapolis Colts last week on the road. The Colts had two pick sixes on Sam Darnold and a safety to put up a huge performance. Philip Rivers threw a touchdown pass, while Jonathan Taylor rushed for another touchdown. Sam Darnold had one touchdown and three interceptions in what was a disappointing performance. Indianapolis finished with a 36-7 win.
These two teams are coming off a rough matchup in Week 3. The last time the Broncos and the Jets met up was in the 2018 season, where New York won 34-16 at home. Denver has won three of the last four against the Jets though. That was a couple of seasons ago, but these two teams are struggling similarly this season. The Jets have had a worse start with the worst deficit, but they do have a chance to turn it around against Denver.
Brett Rypien will get his first career start in Week 4 for the Denver Broncos. Rypien was drafted out of Boise State, where he threw for 13,578 yards, 90 touchdowns and 29 interceptions over four seasons. Rypien stepped into the game against the Buccaneers. He went 8-9 with 53 yards and a late interception trying to force a pass.
Sam Darnold has been up and down throughout his young career. Last season, Darnold went 7-6 in his starts. He threw for 3024 yards, 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Darnold has struggled throughout this season. He has thrown for 562 yards, 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Darnold had an extremely poor Week 4 performance and will look to bounce back against Denver.
The Jets will need Sam Darnold to step up after throwing three picks in Week 3. There are a lot of questions surrounding Brett Rypien, who did not look bad in Week 3 of the season but is starting on a short week of preparation. The Broncos will likely turn to Melvin Gordon to help him out a lot by carrying the running game.
Denver is missing some key defensive players in Von Miller and Cornerbacks A.J. Bouye and Davontae Harris. The Broncos are also missing Wide Receiver Courtland Sutton, Running Back Phillip Lindsay and Quarterback Drew Lock. Denver could also be without Wide Receiver Jerry Jeudy. The Broncos will still look for players to step up in this matchup.
The Jets have been hit hard on offense losing Le’Veon Bell, Jamison Crowder, Breshard Perriman and rookie Denzel Mims. New York could also be without Braxton Berrios. On the defensive end the Jets are without Cornerback Quincy Wilson and Linebacker Blake Cashman. New York will desperately need someone to step up at Wide Receiver if they are without Berrios as well.
These two teams have been hit hard with injuries this season. Sam Darnold has struggled, but he is without all his top receivers and starting running back. Denver is missing pretty much every offense playmaker and their best defensive player. Both teams will need players to step up if they want to win their first game of the season.
New York has struggled throughout this season, losing by a differential of 94-37. The Jets have a good chance against a struggling and injury riddled Denver team. I do not like the idea of Brett Rypien starting off a short week of practice, which I think the Jets can take advantage of. If Sam Darnold can bounce back in Week 4, I think that New York will be able to get into the win column.
BetOnline has New York listed as a -1 ½ against the spread on Thursday Night Football. This gives a slight edge to the Jets coming into this matchup. I believe that with New York at home against a Quarterback making his first start, this line is right. The Jets have gotten blown out so far this season, but I think they can make the adjustments to bounce back in this one.
