Cardinals vs. 49ers Pick – NFL Week 12

An NFC West showdown takes place during the late slate of NFL Week 12 games as two teams in vastly opposite directions square off in San Francisco. It’ll be the 8-2 Arizona Cardinals heading to northern California to take on the struggling, 3-7 49ers. And just a reminder that San Francisco has seemed to move on from Colin Kaepernick and will be going with Blaine Gabbert for the rest of the season. Things aren’t looking all that great right now for Jim Tomsula’s team. Meanwhile for the Cardinals they’ve got some lofty aspirations as they prepare for the playoffs, hopefully much healthier than last season. They’re also gunning for homefield, so not slipping up to inferior teams in Week 12 should definitely be a priority of theirs. We’ve seen some crazy results so far in the NFL this season. Are we in for another shocker this week? Read on below to find out with a full game breakdown and a detailed winning selection.

Cardinals vs. 49ers Pick:

Home team as a double-digit underdog? These long-term winners are generally tough to turn down, and this might yet be another case of that. Despite the manner in which the Niners have played football of late, the fact that they’re pushed Kaepernick out and at least brought in a consistent starter for the remainder of the season should help and bring some continuity to that fading program. Even if it is Blaine Gabbert, who isn’t all that great, anybody at this point would’ve been better than the much-maligned and rapidly regressing, Colin Kaepernick.

San Francisco has also been decent at home this season, currently holding a winning record of 3-2. They’ve battled hard in every game and aren’t just going to roll over for a divisional foe. That defense still possesses a fair amount of talent and should be able to disrupt Carson Palmer at key times. Additionally, this seems like a solid situation in which the Niners are catching Arizona. Fresh off two back-to-back primetime spots, it’s going to be hard for the Cards to avoid the classic letdown emotions seep in for this yawner in Week 12.

There’s also an element of revenge on the line here. Arizona dismantled San Francisco back in Week 3, and you can bet the Niners will want to battle them much harder in Week 12 on their home turf. San Francsico possesses a solid running attack, and while Arizona does limit the run well, they’ve shown vulnerabilities throughout the season.

I think you see a very average version of the Cardinals on Sunday. This is still the NFL and the Niners are going to turn in a professional effort. We’ve seen some stunning results in recent weeks, and 10 points at home in a divisional showdown is simply too much for me. Double-digit road favourites since the new CBA are 6-11 (35%), not all that great. The Niners can play a simple game and should be able to keep things relatively close. While I foresee the Cardinals winning this game, San Francisco will do enough to not embarrass themselves once again. They’ve traditionally played the Cards very tough on their homefield over the past few seasons, and look for that trend to continue on Sunday. Cards by a touchdown, but only by that!

PICK = 49ers +10 (-110)
