After a surprisingly dismal first sixteen weeks from the Seattle Seahawks, they still have a shot at getting into the NFL playoffs this year. But it won’t be easy – and they’ll need some help.
First, they need the Falcons to lose. It’s a tightly contested NFC and Seattle is fortunate that Atlanta will be taking on Carolina, another squad that is trying to win. That said, Seattle needs to ensure they win – a feat that is seemingly harder and harder for them as the weeks go on. This team is a shell of their former selves, and they will need a much better effort in Week 17 against an Arizona Cardinals squad that would relish the opportunity to eliminate their bitter rivals.
This divisional showdown should make for fascinating football to end off the NFL Sunday slate as we gear up for the playoffs. The Cards are better than their 7-8 record would likely indicate, especially in recent weeks – and it will be intriguing to see what they can do in front of a hostile crowd in this type of situation on Sunday. As always, read on below for a full game preview and betting breakdown and prediction. This final week of action should make for some good betting spots, and this contest is no different.

Cardinals vs. Seahawks Pick:
Somehow, the Seattle Seahawks emerged with a victory last week in Dallas against the Cowboys. Their offense was brutal though, and they actually had more yards in penalties than they did in total offense. They averaged just 2.5 yards per attempt and it is really a sign of things to come for a unit that is in bad need of an overhaul.
Seattle has a brutal offensive line and offers little to no help for the talented and otherwise awesome Russell Wilson. They don’t have the tools to battle a decent defense, and Arizona’s is undoubtedly better than anything Dallas had to offer last week. To start, the Cards have an elite pass rush – and one that should be all over the Seahawks on Sunday. Chandler Jones will crush whoever Seattle puts on him, and I don’t think Wilson will be able to escape with regularity. Making matters worse is the fact that his downfield options are limited to begin with. And on Sunday – Patrick Peterson will likely take away Doug Baldwin entirely. Moving the chains will not be easy for the Seahawks.
On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals’ offense isn’t in much better shape, but at least Drew Stanton is an upgrade on Blaine Gabbert. At the same time however, this Seahawks defense remains highly overrated and really is no longer a feared unit. They are especially weak within their secondary, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Stanton connect on many quick passes to Larry Fitzgerald in and around the slot.
The pressure is all on Seattle in this one. They need to win and are not playing well at all. Many players are already tweeting about their future beyond the Seahawks, and that doesn’t seem all that good for team cohesion. The Cardinals meanwhile are entering the off-season playing solid football and I think their tough defense will keep things close throughout. Look for Arizona to again rise to the occasion and do their absolute best to spoil the party for their rivals from Seattle.
PICK = Cardinals +9 (-115)
