The San Diego Chargers head to Oakland to try to beat up on the Oakland Raiders. San Diego coming off of an impressive thrashing of the Arizona Cardinals is looking to improve to 3-2 in a division led by the Kansas City Chiefs. Both teams need a win here so it will be very interesting to see which team comes out with a bigger sense of urgency in this one. These two teams always seem to play each other really close and have had some pretty crazy games the last couple years and this one should be no different. Look for there to be some lead changes, possible turnovers, and some scoring, but maybe not as much as you would think. Game starts at 4:15 PM EST.
The San Diego Chargers are one of the most talented teams in the NFL, but are never able to translate all that talent into wins. They have Phillip Rivers who is one of the top Quarterbacks in the NFL along with a pretty dominant offensive line. The team can use Ryan Matthews to pound away at the terrible run defense of the Raiders, when Phillip Rivers decides to throw he will have All Pro TE Antonio Gates likely running open into the Raiders secondary much like he did against the Cardinals last week. On Defense the Chargers should be pretty solid despite being without LB Larry English and possibly Shawne Merriman, they will have Cornerback Quentin Jammer and LB Shaun Phillips who had a huge game last week. The Chargers should be able to run away with this game, but history indicates the game won’t be a blowout.
The Raiders are just might be the most underachieving team in the league, with all the moves they made this season it makes no sense to believe they aren’t able to get any stops on Defense or score more touchdowns. The team is much improved over the past couple of years, but some things are still the same. The run defense is abysmal, and the lack of a passing game on offense continues to haunt them, the running game has been a pleasant surprise with McFadden finally showing some flashes of the ability that made him a first round pick. Now since McFadden may be out, the Raiders may have to make a commitment to the air attack and look to get some one on one matchups down the field to expose the secondary of the Chargers and on Defense they are going to have to stop the run to be successful.

Chargers vs Raiders Prediction for Week 5 Betting:
Game Total Prediction (Top Play): The total in the Raiders games have gone Over in 6 of the last 9 that they’ve played. I think the Raiders will be able to put up points in this game I just don’t know exactly how much, I expect the Chargers to put up a good amount of points as well. I don’t think neither teams defense will be a factor in this one and could see both teams scoring. The Raiders are actually capable of scoring when Gradkowski is in and if McFadden is out Bush will get the carries. San Diego will be able to run, but it may be more difficult to pass because the Raiders have one of the better pass defense units in the league. In a game that should be a lot of Offense should be pretty exciting.
Spread Prediction: In games in Oakland over the last 3 seasons the Raiders have covered the spread both teams. I think the smart money says to take the Raiders here, they have been competitive in every game so far this season and the Chargers aren’t as good as they played last week. It will be difficult for Phillip Rivers to pass on the Raiders so they are going to have to run a lot to try and keep them off balance. I think the Raiders will be able to make some plays late in the game to keep them in it. The fact that this is a division game for the Raiders and they are facing the Chargers at their house helps as well. The Chargers could have another strong showing against the Raiders and show the world they can’t be taken lightly, but I think until they show consistency you can’t take the Chargers on the road. I like the Chargers to possibly win, but I think the Raiders will be able to cover the points.
