A marquee showdown and potential Super Bowl preview highlights the 4:00 slate of NFL Week 9 action as the 6-2 Kansas City Chiefs head to Dallas to do battle with the rapidly improving Cowboys.
Dallas has reeled off two monstrous victories in their past two outings, and are finally showing signs of the team many thought they could be. They’ve done a decent job of not letting the constant Ezekiel Elliott saga distract the overall group, and are now charging hard in the competitive NFC East. Though they are a few games back of the division-leading Eagles, Dallas still has both their games left against Philly later in the season. That said, they need to keep pace, and the Week 9 contest against K.C. represents a big challenge.
From all of the contests in a pretty intriguing Week 9, this is undoubtedly the one that most eyes will be on. The Cowboys’ offense has started to click and many foresee the Chiefs as current Super Bowl favourites. It should be quite the battle and we’ve got your betting needs covered. Read on below for analysis and a potential wager for this big AFC/NFC showdown.

Chiefs vs. Cowboys Pick:
With Ezekiel Elliott playing yet another week and his blocking improving game-by-game, look for the Cowboys to again feed the beast with regularity on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City has surrendered at least 100 yards to three of their past four opponents, so look for Elliott to again have another big outing for the Cowboys.
The inclusion of Elliott in the lineup should help relieve some of the pressure off of Dak Prescott under centre. With a solid running game, that should open things up in the passing game – but it also means he won’t have to worry about Justin Houston barrelling down on him nearly as much. Houston will still be a thorn to deal with, but handing the ball off to Elliott alleviates those concerns. It is also worth noting that as of this posting – Justin Houston has been listed as questionable for Kansas City. If he can’t play that would be a massive loss for the Chiefs’ stop unit.
On defense, Dallas needs to focus on shutting down Travis Kelce. They have been very solid defending the TE position in 2017, but Kelce is a new type of animal for the Dallas linebackers. Getting Sean Lee back in the past few weeks will help and should help. Kareem Hunt also seems to have slowed down, and though the Cowboys’ secondary does have a fair bit of holes, the Dallas defensive front will generate enough pressure on Alex Smith to disrupt the passing game.
This seems to be destined to be a high-scoring offensive slugfest, and I think given the personnel available – that plays into the hands of the hometown Cowboys. Dallas has shown their best selves over the past two weeks, and with Kansas City needing to travel and coming off of a short week, I think the Cowboys at home will do enough to get the job done. This one should be a lot of fun.
PICK = Cowboys -2.5 (-110)
