The best part about Week 4 of the pre-season is probably that it’s the final week. At first it’s awesome after so long away from NFL action, but after a few games of pre-season football, you start craving the real thing, and we are almost there folks! A few more games to go, and we’ll focus on the Chiefs and Rams in the Missouri Bowl to close out pre-season action. Both these teams are taking the traditional approach to play their starters limited minutes in the final pre-season game, and as is often the case it should come down to evaluating organizational depth to determine a victor. Read on below for a full breakdown on these two Missouri teams and the official selection as I look to close out a successful pre-season.

Chiefs vs. Rams Pick:
In terms of who’s playing and who isn’t – it’s already been reported that Kansas City will not be playing any of their starters according to coach Andy Reid. This is customary for Week 4 of the pre-season and for the most part it’s expected that the Rams will follow suit. The only exception may be their offensive line which could see some good time together as coach Jeff Fisher notes the unit is full with young players and the organization feels they need more reps and time to familiarize themselves with one another.
This Rams pre-season has given renewed hope and optimism to the upcoming season. Many fans and pundits alike feel that St. Louis is due for a solid improvement in 2015, and new additions could have this team slated as a playoff darkhorse. Their defense returns all 11 starters, a rare feat in today’s NFL, and things are really looking up for the Rams this season.
Another legitimate area of strength for St. Louis, and something that should really help them in Thursday’s contest, is their wealth of depth at the QB position. Beyond Nick Foles being installed as starter, the Rams have veterans and former starters slated to be their 2nd and 3rd string QB’s in Case Keenum and Austin Davis. While neither were excellent in their stints as NFL lead men, they are excellent depth options and should thrive against the back-ups of Kansas City.
For the Chiefs meanwhile, it’s expected that longtime veteran Chase Daniel will take a lead role against the Rams, but third-stringer Aaron Murray is still untested and endured mixed results in his NFL career thus far. Kansas City is currently undefeated in the pre-season at 3-0 but they really aren’t putting an emphasis on going perfect. All of their starters are sitting and it seems like Andy Reid and company are to content to let the exhibition season go with a whimper and move on to bigger and better things.
Look for a tightly-fought game between the reserves for both teams. The Rams are blessed with an exceptionally deep defensive unit that should keep veteran Chase Daniel in check. Look for Austin Davis and Case Keenum to do damage against the Chiefs’ reserve defense, en route to a field goal victory.
PICK = Rams -2.5 (-110)
