Cowboys vs. Redskins Pick – NFL Week 13

Coming off a fairly successful opening portion of the week, I’ll look to close out Week 13 with a 4-1 record. Everything went well yesterday with the exception of some awful play from the Giants in the 4th quarter. There was virtually zero reason for them to blow that game, but they did and that outcome had a huge impact on tonight’s all NFC East clash between the Cowboys and the Redskins. It’s remarkable that all four teams are still technically in this, and tonight’s game will go a long way to settling a division winner about a month from now. Dallas got hammered in Week 12 on Thanksgiving, losing Tony Romo for the year. Washington got a huge victory over the rival Giants, and will look to ride that momentum into Monday Night Football. After an array of crazy Monday Night finishes, this match-up is yet another one loaded with intrigue. With so much on the line, read on below to find out the winner and a full game breakdown.

Cowboys vs. Redskins Pick:

It’s remarkable that the Dallas Cowboys have lost their star quarterback yet again for a prolonged period of time, and they still have a shot at topping the NFC East a few weeks from now. If they win this game, they’re just one game out of first place, but beating the Redskins won’t be easy. They’ve improved since the beginning of the year, but the Cowboys, even with Matt Cassel under centre should still be able to move the chains and do some really good things on offense. It’s no secret the Redskins have a ton of well-documented issues within their secondary. Dez Bryant is a remarkable receiver regardless of who is tossing him the football, and he should be in line for a monster performance under the Monday night lights. Dallas also boasts a solid offensive line and will give Cassel ample time and space, and every opportunity to be successful. Washington also does struggle vs. the run, so Darren McFadden will give the Cowboys a solid running threat from the backfield. He is in great form right now and should provide the Cowboys with a solid offensive balance on Monday evening.

On the other side of the football, it may not seem like it, but the Cowboys’ defense actually played well in Week 12 vs. Newton and the high-octane Panthers. It was really Romo’s errors that killed the team as the unit conceded just 4.5 yards per play. Redskins’ QB Kirk Cousins has had a pretty good season and is fresh off a big game against the Giants’ depleted secondary. He won’t have as much success against the Cowboys on Monday evening. They also boast a great pass rush due to the much-maligned Greg Hardy. It won’t be as easy for Washington this time around. For the ‘Skins to enjoy offensive success, the run game is likely their best route with Matt Jones and Alfred Morris.

Ultimately I foresee an incredibly even and back-and-forth affair on Monday Night Football from the nation’s capital. The Cowboys do a lot of things well and despite the fact that they’ve lost Tony Romo, the rest of their teams remains fairly healthy and they should be able to hang tough with an inconsistent Washington team. Dallas plays solid defense and can run the football very well, and for those reasons look for them to keep this close throughout.

PICK = Cowboys +4 (-115)
