A historic rivalry highlights the 4:00 slate of games for NFL Week 8 as the Dallas Cowboys travel to the nation’s capital to do battle with the Redskins.
Dallas will surely be fully fired up for this all-NFC East showdown, coming off a huge showing last week in San Francisco where they finally looked to have played to their potential. They enter with a 3-3 record and with the Eagles firing on all cylinders, and Washington a game up on them – it’s now or never for the Cowboys.
Washington will enter this contest reeling after a big divisional loss last week against the red-hot Eagles. They have shown some offensive prowess but have a tendency to get bullied at the lines of scrimmage. Their defense has also been suspect at times, and head coach Jay Gruden knows his team can and should be better as they host Dallas in Week 8. It promises to be a great match-up, filled with playoff implications. As always, feel free to read on below for further analysis and a betting prediction for this rivalry showdown.

Cowboys vs. Redskins Pick:
Things were very easy for Dallas last week, almost too easy. However, all of that dominance was to be expected against San Francisco. We called a blowout in this spot last week, but this week Dallas’ outlook seems a bit more gloomy. For one, they’re playing a quality opponent in a rowdy road environment. Washington will offer a lot more resistance, specifically with their edge rush. Ryan Kerrigan should be able to dominate his matchup against La’el Collins on the right side, and this should generate a ton of pressure on Dak Prescott. Of course, this could force the sophomore into making some ill-advised throws into a secondary that now has Josh Norman back and in action.
This might force Dallas to turn to the ground game – but I’m not so certain this will work either. Even though Ezekiel Elliott looked beastly last week against the Niners, the Redskins defend against the ground game quite well. In fact, all season Washington has only given up more than 88 yards one time. Washington should be able to clamp down on the ground and pound, and focus solely on the passing game. Expect a solid defensive outing from the home team on Sunday.
On offense for the Redskins, look for their blockers along the offensive line to hold up and do a good job of neutralizing the Dallas push rush. DeMarcus Lawrence is simply a beast, but Washington has enough to keep him in check. This will be crucial on Sunday as it’ll allow Kirk Cousins time and space to just pick apart the Cowboys’ pathetic secondary.
At home, and getting a full 3-points, the Redskins represent a ton of value – especially looking at their match-ups on either side of the football. It seems like there is a lot of recency bias at play here with Dallas just crushing San Francisco. To me, that’s meaningless as they’re going to face a big step up on Sunday afternoon. Look for the Redskins to keep things close, and Kirk Cousins to be able to move the chains through the air.
PICK = Redskins +3 (-120)
