Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants NFL Week 5 Pick – October 10

A classic NFC East rivalry will resume Sunday of Week 5 as the New York Giants take their act to Dallas to do battle with the 3-1 Cowboys.

Many initially anticipated this division to be one of mediocrity, but the Cowboys are quickly proving that idea to be false. Dallas has looked stellar early this season, producing on offense, and getting stops when required on defense. Dak Prescott looks healthy, and with the assortment of talent on this roster – the amount of gamebreakers has proven problematic for opposing defenses.

That’ll be the task for the 1-3 New York Giants on Sunday. Though they’ve shown some nice flashes this season, mistakes and poor coverage have them in an early season hole. They fell short of victory last week, and know that if they are to stay afloat in the division, they’ll need to secure a big upset in Week 5.

It’s always exciting when these two teams go head-to-head, and given the surprising success of Dallas to date, it makes Sunday’s encounter all the more interesting. Keep on reading beneath the current odds, for the latest trends, data, and analysis for this divisional showdown.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys Prediction

It was this matchup last season where Cowboys’ franchise quarterback Dak Prescott badly injured his knee. He’s now firmly on the comeback trail, and is in the midst of yet another impressive offensive season.

This matchup should be an intriguing one as the Cowboys boast perhaps the best core of wideouts in the NFL. They’ll have a stiff test on Sunday however, as the G-Men offer up a strong secondary. Talented corner play could limit Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb, while their aggressive defensive line could get after Prescott with some consistency.

Expect the key to this game for Dallas to come via the run game. The Giants recently lost Blake Martinez, meaning a huge void in their run defense. The tandem of Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott has been exceptional for Dallas so far this season, and they should find success against this porous unit. With control and yardage on the ground, it should help Prescott later in the game through the air.

The Giants will likely need to strike efficiently to be successful against Dallas. Their offense has shown some big signs of improvement early in the year, and Daniel Jones too has taken that next step. Like Prescott, Jones boasts an impressive array of playmakers. Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and Kadarius Toney can all move the chains, and should be able to win their respective matchups on Sunday.

Dallas still has holes in their secondary if they can’t get to opposing QB’s, while the ground defense remains very suspect. Expect a big outing from Saquon Barkley in dual roles, and despite the heavy focus on both run games – their could be a lot of offense in this matchup.

Giants vs. Cowboys Trends To Know:

  • Giants are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC East.
  • Giants are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in October.
  • Cowboys are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf.
  • Cowboys are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC.
  • Over is 10-4 in Giants last 14 games in Week 5.
  • Over is 7-1 in Cowboys last 8 games as a home favorite.
  • Over is 9-2 in Cowboys last 11 games after allowing more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Four of the last five meetings between these divisional rivals have sailed over the total.  Both teams slant to offense, and with injuries and question marks remaining within both stop units – you’ve got to look that way again in Week 5.  Look for neither team to face all that much resistance, either through the ground or air.  The Giants should be competitive, but the better look is on the Over 53 points.
