A couple of stunning results on Thanksgiving Thursday have me starting behind the 8-ball in Week 12, but let’s hope the Sunday slate is kinder to us. We’ll begin with a key tilt in the AFC East where the New York Jets host the Miami Dolphins. Todd Bowles’ side has hit a rut of late and desperately need a victory to try and climb back into that playoff chase. It’s been tough with starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick dealing with a thumb issue in the past few weeks, but the offense needs to get back on track if there’s going to be any discussion of a post-season in New York. No Darelle Revis and a banged-up Nick Mangold certainly won’t help them either, but still, this is a game in which the Jets are favoured and most would expect them to roll fairly comfortably here. Read on below for a game breakdown and the official selection for this divisional clash.

Dolphins vs. Jets Pick:
From the three key injuries listed above, it appears that both Nick Mangold and Ryan Fitzpatrick will battle on and suit up for this contest on Sunday. Both are officially listed as probable, and the Jets can really be thankful for that. This is a completely different team when Mangold doesn’t play and his health in the recent weeks is the main reason for the Jets slump. Unfortunately, Revis will remain out with a concussion, but his play has been deteriorating in recent years and isn’t as big of a loss as Mangold. With the big center back in the mix, look for improved running results from powerful back Chris Ivory. He’s also been a bit sluggish in recent weeks, but with Mangold back expect to see how prolonged drives from the ground game. Miami has a very leaky run defense, and the first time these teams met, New York ran for 173 yards on the ground. Expect similar results on Sunday, and for the Jets to control the game with a dominant ground attack.
On the defensive side for New York, they match up extremely well with Miami. Expect the Jets to blitz early and often on Sunday, as this has proven confusing for Tannehill early in his career. He’s struggled to read these and pick them up pre-snap, and look for the constant Jets pressure to force the former Texas A&M product into a plethora of mistakes on Sunday. Even without Revis, Tannehill is still going to struggle, much like he did back when these teams first met earlier in the year. Recently Miami has had some success running the football with Jay Ajayi and Lamar Miller, but the Jets run defense should bring an end to that. New York enters ranking 11th against the run, and without the Dolphins big O-line stud in Ja’Wuan James, look for the Jets to have their way on the line of scrimmage.
Both these teams have been unfortunately hampered by injuries of late and are really heading in the wrong direction. That said, every game’s got to produce a winner and the Jets seem like the right side here. They’re less banged-up for one, and without Cameron Wake this Dolphins team just isn’t the same unit. With Mangold back in the fold, the offense will return to effectiveness and New York will win the battles in the trenches. Roll with the Jets by a touchdown on Sunday.
PICK = Jets -4 (-105)
