The NFC’s divisional round playoffs will end late Sunday afternoon as the surprising Philadelphia Eagles head to New Orleans to take on the Saints. Not many people figured Philly would get back to this point after a very mediocre regular season, but they have been hanging around and have a chance to repeat on last year’s Super Bowl glory.
Standing in their way will be the likely best team in football, who are well-rested coming into this contest off of a bye week. Sean Payton’s crew is elite at home, and his squad has nicely blended the elements of a prolific offense with a decent defense. They are legitimate Super Bowl contenders, but sometimes it is tough not getting wrapped up into the hype.
This matchup pits this year’s Super Bowl favourites against last year’s champs. It should make for fascinating football, and will nicely set the table for next Sunday’s Championship matchups from both conferences. Keep reading on below the odds for a detailed analysis and betting breakdown between the Eagles and Saints.

Eagles vs. Saints Pick:
The last time the Eagles went down to New Orleans, they were absolutely embarrassed. They lost by a score-line of 48 to 7, but here’s thinking this time it will be a bit different. For starters, the Eagles were without some key personnel which really hurt their defensive performance. Jordan Hicks was absent, which really prevented Philly from stuffing the opposing run threats of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. But since the return of Hicks, the Eagles’ defense has really soared. He single-handedly can nullify the Saints’ run game, and should force Brees to make a ton of plays through the air as a result.
Philadelphia has also made some solid improvements within their secondary, and that should make things even tougher for the Saints in this contest. Many would consider this area to still be a weakness, but the Eagles have had key pieces step up and step in as a result of some key injuries. Look for Philly to do a much better job of containing Michael Thomas and Drew Brees through the air on Sunday.
On the offensive side of things, Nick Foles has filled in admirably for Carson Wentz. He has been steady and very clutch when the Eagles need him to be. He has no shortage of big game experience, and look for Foles to once again give his team a shot in this game. He’ll also be helped by the fact that Philly will get their center back in Jason Kelce. He is an elite talent and when the Eagles didn’t have him the first time they played New Orleans, his absence was heavily felt. As a result, look for the Eagles to be way more effective in both the passing and running games.
The Eagles have vastly improved and gotten red-hot in recent weeks since Nick Foles has taken over. The Saints do many things right, but the Eagles’ recent form has matched New Orleans of late. I expect Philly to be able to keep things close, in what promises to be a thrilling game on Sunday.
PICK = Eagles +8 (-110)
