Eagles vs. Vikings Pick – NFL Week 15

Though it’s a match-up that truly only matters for one team, the Philadelphia Eagles have a real opportunity to close out their 2013 campaign. The chance to erase the failures of years past awaits, and after a string of solid performances, an NFC East divisional crown is within their grasp. Standing in their way in Week 15 are the banged-up Minnesota Vikings, a team with really not a whole lot to play for. The Eagles can be inconsistent and erratic, but with quarterback Nick Foles at the helm, expect Philly to enter this crucial game fired up and looking poised to put a stranglehold on their playoff hopes. With Adrian Peterson likely being unable to suit up for this one, a huge opportunity presents itself for the Eagles. Can they take advantage of this favourable situation? We’re fresh off an undefeated week in Week 14 here at The Sports Geek, and will look to ride the momentum into the New Year. Read on below for further game thoughts and our official selection.

Eagles at Vikings Pick:

The Eagles of previous years might have let a game like this Sunday’s go by the wayside. A huge opportunity, with a real chance to put the stranglehold on the NFC East division, and truthfully it wouldn’t have been a surprise had those teams blown this chance. The current version of the Eagles doesn’t seem willing to go that route. This team is playing inspired football in recent weeks under head coach Chip Kelly, and much of that has to do with the recent play of young quarterback Nick Foles. Foles has been quite the revelation thus far in the City of Brotherly Love, making people wonder why they even bothered starting Vick in the first place. Foles has led the Eagles back into the playoff race, and with a strong finish, Philly has a shot at reclaiming their divisional title.

The big news in the lead-up to this game has been the status of Minnesota’s running backs. Adrian Peterson is not playing, and now back-up Toby Gerhart is listed as questionable and unlikely to suit up. The Vikes are hurting right now, and without that duo you have to wonder how they plan on moving the football with virtually no ground game to speak of. Look for an improved Eagles defense to focus solely on stopping the Vikings through the air, taking away the limited options at Matt Cassel’s disposal.

On the other side of the ball, after a wintry burst last week in Philly, the talented and speedy Eagles’ offense will be thrilled to get to play indoors for this week. Nick Foles still managed to have a productive game, but it was nowhere near the level he was capable of. Expect this week to be a much different story. The red-hot Foles should simply torch a pathetic Vikings secondary that is dealing with some crucial injuries. Minnesota concedes more passing yards per play than all but two teams in the NFL, and look for Foles to take some deep shots to the likes of DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper.

It’s all come together at exactly the right time for the Philadelphia Eagles. They’re a cohesive group and playing good football heading into the New Year. A real opportunity presents itself in Week 15, and expect Philly to not be haunted by their previous inconsistencies, and instead get the job done on Sunday. They’re the hungrier group and should roll over the Vikings this week. Look for the Eagles by a comfortable double-digit margin.

PICK = Eagles -6.5 (-105)
