Though the New York Giants enter this game 0-3, they have to be able to take some positives from last week’s tough loss in Philadelphia. They did a lot of good things on both sides of the football, and though they are already behind the proverbial 8-ball, a winnable game greets them in Week 4 as they head south to take on the Bucs.
Tampa Bay is coming off of a brutal showing last week in Minnesota. Their heralded defense was exposed, and they couldn’t get anything going on offense. Typically they play much better at home – though they’ll be weary of welcoming a desperate and hungry G-Men group on Sunday. This should all combine for a very intriguing all-NFC contest in the late slate of Sunday action. It’s the Giants and Bucs and we’ve got your betting needs covered here at The Sports Geek! Giants vs. Buccaneers Pick:
Expect the Giants’ offense to pick up where it left off in last week’s second half explosion against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bucs could have a good defensive unit, although they have suffered a harsh rash of injuries and as a result, will likely struggle in Week 4. Lavonte David will be out, and though Gerald McCoy and Brent Grimes will play – you’ve got to wonder about their health and overall effectiveness.
Look for Odell Beckham Jr. to just have a massive game. Frankly, there is nobody good enough in the Tampa secondary to stop him. The Giants’ passing attack finally meshed late against the Eagles, and if they continue to show that form – they can recover from this 0-3 hole they currently find themselves in. It is also worth pointing out that New York’s style has slightly changed. They now seem to be operating a quick/short pass offense, and this will definitely nullify Tampa Bay’s pass rush. Look for the G-Men to move the ball with ease on Sunday.
On the other side of the football, the Bucs’ offense has started out way too pass-heavy. And if that does continue, it’ll play right into the hands of New York’s stellar defense. The G-Men have a great pass rush and will give Jameis Winston fits all afternoon. On Tampa’s offensive line, they won’t be able to stop the pressure – especially if Olivier Vernon suits up. Vernon is currently listed as questionable on game day, and if he does play – definitely upgrade New York in this contest.
Tampa also has no running game, mainly because they’ve given Jacquizz Rodgers no opportunities to carry the load. Doug Martin is slated to return next week – but until then, it’ll be the Jameis Winston airing it out show. This one-dimensional approach will be easy for the Giants to limit. DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans are dangerous receivers, but the trio of Landon Collins, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Janoris Jenkins are as good as any secondary in the entire NFL. They can limit the aerial game, and force Winston into some bad decisions if downfield options are covered effectively.
New York will move the ball on offense – especially given Tampa’s injury list on their defense. Tampa will struggle to pass the football, and as a result – look for the G-Men to enter the Sunshine State and leave with their first victory of the season. This is a much better team than their 0-3 record would indicate, and look for a win here to spark the rest of their campaign. Remember to monitor the status of Olivier Vernon, and don’t be afraid to buy a bit extra to get to that key number of 3 on New York.
PICK = Giants +3 (-125)
