Jets vs. Bills Pick – Week 12 NFL

It was a dismal Sunday for us yesterday as the Buccaneers squandered a double-digit lead to the lowly Bears, and the Cowboys won, but failed to cover the listed spread by a half-point. Combine that with Thursday’s last second touchdown ruining the Over, and it’s been some hard luck to kick off Week 12. That said, we’re fortunate enough to enjoy two Monday Night games here at The Sports Geek to close out another week of NFL action. Due to the mountains of snow in Buffalo, the Bills/Jets game has been moved and relocated to the city of Detroit. It’ll be interesting to see this neutral venue game play out, and despite it being a Bills home game, what will the atmosphere really be like for them?

Jets vs. Bills Pick:

The last time these two squads square off, it didn’t go well for the Jets. They were a disaster on offense and looked unusually soft on defense. Of course, that was with the Jets under Geno Smith who looks more and more like yet another quarterback who will go down as a highly-touted bust. Now with Mike Vick at the helm, the Jets have look rejuvenated. Mike Vick isn’t that great, but he’s been a lot better than Smith and made the Jets team better as a result. He understands the game and can read defenses a lot better than his predecessor. That should help tonight against a stout Buffalo defense. The Bills bring the pressure and Vick’s mobility should be able to evade the Buffalo rush.

Even though I’d expect this to be a relatively terse and dull affair in a neutral venue, the Jets should be able to have some success moving the football. While nobody will confuse them with an offensive juggernaut, New York should be able to get their ground game going. The Bills have been porous defending the run of late, as three of their past four opponents have gone over 100 rushing yards. Chris Ivory should be able to move the chains with his legs, and keep Vick out of obvious passing downs and long yardage situations.

On the other side of the ball, look for the Jets to put a ton of pressure on Kyle Orton. Orton is not mobile and as has been seen in his last few outings, Orton has a tendency to hold onto the ball for far too long. Expect relentless pressure on Orton and many sacks as a result. The Jets are also excellent against the run, currently ranking 3rd in the NFL in this category. If this can continue vs. Fred Jackson, they should be able to just focus on shutting down Sammy Watkins in the passing game. I can’t see the Bills having that much success moving the chains tonight.

This is an obvious revenge spot for the Jets who were no doubt humilated the last time they squared off vs. Buffalo. The Bills aren’t that much better than them and you can bet Rex Ryan will have his team fired up for this Monday Night showdown. Buffalo will likely enter feeling sorry for themselves, forced to play a pretty pivotal “home game” miles away in Detroit. Their support will be minimal and they’ll struggle as a result. Two other teams forced to play home games elsewhere due to displacement (San Diego & Minnesota) both lost in embarrassing fashion. While the Jets likely won’t do that to Buffalo, it’s a bad spot for the Bills. That loss to Miami surely deflated them and look for New York to take advantage with an outright victory Monday evening in the Motor City.

PICK = NY Jets +3 (-120)
