Jets vs. Cardinals MNF Pick – NFL Week 6

Monday Night of Week 6 pits the New York Jets against the Arizona Cardinals. You can say that both teams would have liked their opening portions of 2016 to go much better, but you can’t change the past. The Jets enter with a very disappointing 1-4 record, though you get the sense it could be a tad higher. Perhaps under the bright lights of Monday night will provide them that opportunity? Read on below as we preview this match-up from a betting angle to wrap up an intriguing Week 6 of football action.

Jets vs. Cardinals Pick:

Though Carson Palmer is getting up there in age, he still remains a competent quarterback. But right now he is quite banged up. He’s been seemingly in and out of the concussion protocol all season long, and though he has been cleared again for this game – you’ve got to wonder about his health going forward.

Palmer will suit up on Monday evening, and that should be welcome news for the Cards’ trio of talented receivers – Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown, and Michael Floyd. Even though the options beyond Palmer aren’t anything special, it still is a benefit to have him under centre despite his struggles. Arizona recently turned in a mediocre outing offensively against the Niners, but Palmer has clearly not been himself so far. He has been lucky in the sense that many of his opposing defenses have dropped easy interceptions, and the Jets may not be as forgiving on Monday night.

If Palmer can’t do it through the air, I’m not certain about David Johnson getting much going in the ground game. New York boasts a tough run defense, and one that should dominate the trenches with the Cardinals missing their starting offensive guards.

For New York, they’ve got injury concerns of their own – most notably with their key centre in Nick Mangold. It’s believed he will play and that’s welcome news to a Jets squad that really relies on him for all facets of their offence. With Mangold, look for the Jets to be just fine in protection situations. New York does have good potential and solid pieces on offense. Arizona does boast a solid defensive unit, but it’s one that hasn’t played anywhere near its potential so far this year. Look for the Jets to be able to move the chains both on the ground and through the air to both Quincy Enunwa and Brandon Marshall. The Jets did lose Eric Decker for the year this past week, but the team has enough depth to still be productive on offence.

Carson Palmer is not the same guy he was a few years ago when he turned the Cardinals into contenders. As a result, Arizona’s playoff positioning seems awfully tedious at the moment. This is an overrated and overvalued Cardinals squad, being judged on the team many thought they’d be back in August. They’ve got big holes on their offensive line, and look for a well-coached Jets team to keep things very tight on Monday night.

PICK = Jets +7.5 (-110)
