Last week
Las Vegas was throughly embarrassed in an unexpected 43-6 loss to the Falcons in Atlanta. The Raiders turned the ball over five times, including a 67-yard pick-6 by Deion James which was only Derek Carr’s fourth interception of the entire season. Atlanta scored 27 points off those five Raiders turnovers. With this, Las Vegas went from a solid wild card contestant to a team chasing the Browns, Ravens, and Dolphins for the final playoff spot
The Jets’ offensive ineptitude continued as Miami took a 20-3 win at MetLife Stadium. Darnold, back in action after an injury, there for 197 yards, but had two interceptions. Frank Gore’s 74 rushing yards last week were a season high.
When the Raiders Have the Ball
Carr usually saves his best for the Jets as he has nine touchdown passes and only one interception with a 106.5 quarterback rating in four games. He completes 67 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and now pick while fashioning a 112.8 quarterback rating.
The Raiders’ best bet is to strike early and not let New York think they can compete. With Josh Jacobs nicked up, Devontae Booker has proven he can come in and carry the load on the ground. The Jets give up 284 yards through the air per game, so Henry Ruggs and Nelson Algohlor should be licking their chops.
When the Jets Have the Ball
The New York offense is as big of an issue as the defense because it is the least productive of the 32 NFL teams. The team finds no rhythm at all as Darnold has been injured most of the season with no production from wide receivers nor in the running game. To say Adam Gase is on the hot seat is an understatement although the front office is even more culpable for the lack of talent on this football team across the boards.
Raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther is under fire after these last two outings although the loss to Kansas City wasn’t as bad of a look as Atlanta. Basically, the offense scored too quickly in giving Kansas City the ball back as the Chiefs trailed 31-28 with 1:47 remaining. Max Crosby and Nicholas Morrow need to step up the pass rush as Las Vegas must get off the field better on third down where the opponents have a 47.9 percent conversion rate.
