Coming off of a successful Sunday of Week 2 NFL action, the Monday Night matchup should also bring some thrills. Last week was not a great start for the talented New York Giants. They were routed by their divisional rivals in Dallas and without their star wideout in Odell Beckham Jr. This week, the talented receiver is slated to return though his effectiveness remains in doubt. Still however – the G-Men are a better group with ODB in the fold, and expect him to be raring to go against a questionable Lions’ secondary.
For Detroit, they enter the Monday nighter a 1-0 team after a very thorough showing against a solid Arizona Cardinals team. Typically though Detroit does fare well at home and struggle mightily when on the road. They’ll be looking to reverse that narrative in Week 2 as they travel to New York. This should be a solid showdown between two teams both battling for a hotly contested NFC playoff spot. Read on below for analysis and a betting prediction to end your week on the right note!

Lions vs. Giants Pick:
As of this writing on Sunday evening, it seems as if Odell Beckham Jr. will play for the Giants. That is great news for New York because their offense looked horrific in Week 1 against Dallas. Beckham stretches the field and simply can’t be covered. His remarkable catches have made his name into a verb, and he should begin yet another stellar campaign on Monday night against the Lions.
The Giants were not good last week, but expect a reversal on Monday night. Having Beckham’s presence in the lineup alone will open things up for the likes of Brandon Marshall and Evan Engram. Engram in particular could thrive as the Lions’ linebacking crew is about as mediocre as it gets. New York struggled with protection for Eli Manning in Week 1, but they’ll notice it will be a lot easier on Monday as Detroit doesn’t really have anybody healthy to pressure the opposing quarterback. While New York will still struggle with their putrid running game, look for Manning to bounce back with a big showing through the air.
Speaking of pass protection, though the Lions have made improvements of late – they’ve got no shot of stopping Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul from getting to Matthew Stafford. The Giants have an underrated defensive group and even though the offense is hyped, their stop unit has the potential to be quite problematic for the Lions. The G-Men secondary is a tough test and should be able to bottle up Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate.
Ultimately look for the Giants’ defensive front to take over and win the game for the G-Men. It’s the biggest mismatch between all units in this Monday night contest, and look for Stafford to have a difficult time getting into a rhythm. With trips to Philadelphia and Tampa Bay on deck, New York realizes this game is pretty crucial. Look for them to get the job done in a tight affair on Monday night.
PICK = Giants -3 (-120)
