The NFL is set up with another great week of action on Sunday. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout Sunday. One of these games will be a matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars. These two teams have struggled to start out this season, but will look to bounce back with a win. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions have started out the season with a record of 1-3, which has them in third place of the NFC North. Detroit has seen their share of struggles over the last few seasons and will look to turn around this season before it is too late. The Lions are coming off their bye week and will look to use that to their advantage in this one.
Jacksonville has earned a record of 1-4 to start out the season, which has them in last place of the AFC South. The Jaguars have also struggled over the last few seasons, but still have time to turn it around in this season. Jacksonville will look to come out strong at home as they try and knock off another struggling team in Detroit.
These two teams have had rough starts to the season, but both teams can bounce back with big wins in this matchup. Both teams are looking to turn it around before it gets too deep in this season and this win could be just what they need. Look for the Lions and the Jaguars to come out strong in this one as they try and earn a win on October 18.
Detroit’s last game came in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints. Matthew Stafford threw two touchdowns early as the Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead. The Saints came marching back though as Drew Brees threw two touchdowns to Tre’Quan Smith as New Orleans took a 28-14 lead into halftime. Matthew Stafford threw another touchdown in the second half, but it was not enough as the Saints won 35-29.
The Jaguars took on the Houston Texans in Week 5 on the road. Gardner Minshew threw for two touchdowns on the day, but it was not enough to get Jacksonville the win. Deshaun Watson had three touchdown passes and Ka’imi Fairbairn went 3-3 on field goals. The Texans were able to earn their first win on the season with a 30-14 win at home over their division rival.
The last time the Lions and the Jaguars met up was in 2016, where the Lions won 26-19 at home. Jacksonville has taken three of the last five matchups over Detroit. The Lions will look to start out this game strong as they look to avoid blowing another lead, which they have done in all three of their losses this season. If Detroit can clean up their game though, it could help them earn a big win on the road.
The Lions have a strong starting Quarterback in Matthew Stafford. This season Stafford has thrown for 1017 yards, 8 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. In Stafford’s last game against the Saints, he went 17-31 for 206 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Detroit will look for Stafford to build upon that matchup against New Orleans in this one.
Jacksonville has a young starting Quarterback in Gardner Minshew, who is in his second season in the league. Minshew has thrown for 1439 yards on the season, 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. In the Texans game, Minshew went 31-49 for 301 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Minshew did lose a fumble in the loss but will look to put up another strong performance on Sunday.
These two teams have had strong play from their Quarterbacks this season. I believe Detroit has a slight edge in this one with Stafford behind center. Stafford has done extremely well throughout this season and will look to lead his team to a win. If he can outduel Minshew in this one, it could help lead the Lions to a big win coming out of their bye week.
Detroit has been putting up solid numbers on offense throughout this season. The Lions are averaging around 25 points per game this season. Detroit has also been averaging around 334 yards of offense throughout the season. The Lions have allowed around 32 points per game and 405 yards to opposing teams. Detroit will need their offense to step up in this one.
The Jaguars have struggled a bit on offense and defense throughout this season. Jacksonville has averaged around 22 points per game and 366 yards per game. The Jaguars will look to put up more points in this one. Jacksonville’s defense has also allowed their opponents to average 29 points per game and 417 yards.
These two teams have struggled heavily on defense this season, which could allow both offenses to break big in this one. If the Lions can shut down Jacksonville’s offense this game, it could give them some momentum going forward. The Jaguars will look to bounce back from a poor Week 5 performance with a win in this one.
These two teams have seen their struggles throughout this season, but I expect both teams to come out with a clean mindset in this one as they try and earn a big win. I believe the Lions will earn the win as they are coming off a bye week. Detroit had some extra preparation coming into this one, which could give them the edge over the Jaguars.
Bovada has the Lions listed as a -3 ½ against the spread in this week. This gives a slight edge to Detroit on the road. I believe that this line is right as the Lions are coming off a bye week and their offense has looked a bit better. If Detroit’s defense can have a good performance coming off the bye, I believe the Lions will earn a big win on the road.
