Detroit Lions vs Carolina Panthers Week 11 Pick – NFL November 22

The NHL has another great week of action set up for this Sunday. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout November 22. One of these matchups will be between the Detroit Lions and the Carolina Panthers. These two teams have had their share of struggles this season, but could come out strong on Sunday. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Lions have earned a record of 4-5 throughout this season, which has them sitting in fourth place of the NFC North. Detroit has struggled to find momentum, but are still in the thick of the playoff race. The Lions could take a big step in getting closer by getting back to .500. I expect Detroit to try and take advantage of this one as they go into their yearly Thanksgiving Day game.

Carolina has put up a record of 3-7 on the season, which has them in fourth place of the NFC South. The Panthers have hit a wall as of late, losing five games in a row coming into this one. Carolina could be without Teddy Bridgewater in this one, which will hurt. The Panthers will look to come out strong though as they host Detroit.

These two teams have put up below .500 record this season, which has hurt them a bit. The Panthers and the Lions could both use a big win in this one though. Carolina has hit a wall after starting 3-2 on the season. The Panthers could get back into the playoff race though if they can put together a couple of wins soon. Detroit is looking to string together their second straight win though as they come into this one.

Previous Matchups

Detroit met up with the Washington Football Team last week. Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes early as the Lions were able to take a 24-3 lead. Antonio Gibson scored two touchdowns, while J.D. McKissic rushed for another as Washington tied it up at 27-27. Matthew Stafford led a drive with 16 seconds left though to set up a Matt Prater game winning field goal as the Lions won 30-27.

The Panthers met up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10. Teddy Bridgewater threw two passing touchdowns and rushed for another, but it was not enough. Tom Brady had three passing touchdowns on the day, while rushing for another. Ronald Jones II had a 98 yard rushing touchdown as well as the Buccaneers were able to dominate for a 46-23 win.

Carolina is coming off a tough loss as they were blown out by the Buccaneers last week. The Lions did not have a great performance as they gave up a big lead to Washington’s uninspiring offense. Detroit will need to clean up their game coming into this one. The Panthers will need an answer at Quarterback if Bridgewater ends up missing Sunday’s game.

Quarterback Comparison

Matthew Stafford is the starting Quarterback for the Lions this season. Stafford as played really well throughout this season. He has thrown for 2403 yards, 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Stafford had a great performance against the Football Team. He went 24-33 for 276 yards and 3 touchdowns on the day. Detroit will need another good performance from him in this one.

Teddy Bridgewater is expected to be a game time decision for Carolina this week. Bridgewater has thrown for 2552 yards, 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season. He went 18-24 for 136 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception last week. If Bridgewater is out the Panthers will go with P.J. Walker or Will Grier. Neither Quarterback is very proven at the NFL level yet, but could come out with something to prove.

These two teams have not been consistent this season, but the play from their Quarterbacks has been solid. Stafford has been slightly better this season, but both Quarterbacks have been similar. If the Panthers are without Bridgewater in this one, it could give a big edge to the Lions. Carolina is also without Christian McCaffrey, who is a big part of their offense as well.

Offense vs Defense

The Lions offense has not been their weakness throughout this season. Detroit has been able to score 227 points, which is 16th in the NFL this season. The Lions have also gained around 3244 yards of offense, which is 17th in the league. Detroit’s defense has struggled a bit though. The Lions have given up 267 points and 3600 yards to opposing teams, which is 29th and 27th in the NFL.

Carolina’s offense and defense has been a bit shaky throughout this season. The Panthers have scored 233 points and gained 3510 yards of offense this season, which are both 21st in the league. Carolina’s defense has given up 272 points, which is 21st in the NFL. The Panthers have allowed their opponents to gain 3800 yards of offense, which is 22nd in the league.

The Panthers have played one more game then the Lions this season, which has led to some of these numbers. Carolina struggled a lot against Tom Brady last week, but have had some bright spots on defense. The Panthers will need their defense to bounce back in this one though as they play a banged up Lions receiving core.

Pick Overview

Neither one of these teams have been impressive this season, but I believe that the Panthers have a good chance to break their losing streak in this one. Carolina could be without Teddy Bridgewater, but I think that Grier or Walker could step up if he is out. The Lions have struggled to find consistency this season and without D’Andre Swift in this one, it will not help out their offense.

BetOnline has Carolina listed as a -3 against the spread in this one. This gives a solid edge to the Panthers at home. I agree with this line. Carolina has had a tough last few games and it has led to a five game losing streak. I think that this is the game that the Panthers get back in the win column. The Lions win against Washington was very uninspiring and I think that they will drop this one on the road.
