Los Angeles Chargers vs. Baltimore Ravens Pick – NFL Week 6

The Los Angeles Chargers fly cross country from the west to the east coast for a good looking matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. After a wild 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns last week, the Chargers should be in for another entertaining one against the Ravens in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium.

I don’t know if we’re going to get that kind of wildness again, but this looks like a good matchup between two good teams. Justin Herbert led the Chargers from behind to grab a 47-42 win at home last week. He passed for 398 yards, 4 touchdowns, and mistake-free with no interceptions.

That’s not an easy defense to chew up through the air. Cleveland was going into SoFi Stadium with plenty of confidence defensively. They were one of the top rated defenses in the NFL before getting torched by Herbert, who got excellent protection from his offensive line. Herbert is putting up numbers this season, and his offensive line needs more credit for his production.

Herbert and the Chargers are going into Week 6 with a record of 4-1 and first in the AFC West. With the Kansas City Chiefs regressing, and the Las Vegas Raiders in the midst of distractions, the division looks like the Chargers to lose. At least from what we’ve seen so far this season.

Counting Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs out this early in the season isn’t too wise. That said, the Chargers deserve top honors in the AFC West. Since losing a close one to the Cowboys, 20-17, the Chargers have three straight wins.

Their winning streak includes a 30-24 win over the Chiefs on September 26. That was a statement win for the Chargers, and they didn’t suffer a letdown spot the following week in a 28-14 win over the Raiders. The biggest measurement of an elite team is avoiding letdowns. So far so good for Herbert and company.

This shouldn’t be an easy trip across the country to play a dynamic quarterback like Lamar Jackson. The Ravens are coming off a gift after the Indianapolis Colts botched things last week in Baltimore. Needing just a chip shot, an injured Rodrigo Blankenship couldn’t convert. This was after blowing a 22-3 lead. The Colts received a second life and did not miss in overtime for a 28-25 win to advance to 4-1.

With Herbert coming to town, the Ravens’ secondary is going to have to tighten up. Carson Wentz made it look easy, and they’ve been vulnerable against other quarterbacks as well. Herbert is a step up in class. Head below for our free Chargers vs. Ravens pick on October 17, 2021.

Chargers vs. Ravens Prediction:

The Ravens are fortunate to get to 4-1 on the season after their win against the Colts. That could have easily gone against the Ravens.

With their pass defense, the Ravens can’t feel too comfortable at the moment. They’ve been giving up big yards in chunks through the air.

Carson Wentz sliced through the Ravens’ secondary for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns. I was on his OVER passing yardage, which was in the 220’s. Wentz bypassed that total and smashed through it without any problems.

The Colts’ passing-game hasn’t been in terrific form or anything. It was a case of Wentz taking advantage of a team that can’t defend the pass.

Herbert has to be frothing at the mouth looking at this unit on the other side. The Chargers are third in the NFL with 303 yards per game across the air. Herbert has aired it out for 1,576 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.

The presence of Austin Ekeler in the backfield keeps defenses honest. Ekeler has rushed for 349 yards on 5.2 yards per carry and 4 touchdowns. He’s also a pass catcher with 23 receptions for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns.

If Herbert and the Chargers are interested in playing after their long flight, they are going to move the ball in Baltimore.

The Chargers are feeling really confident right now, and the Ravens’ paper thin secondary shouldn’t be a problem. Note that Baltimore has allowed 396.4 passing yards per game for 30th in the league.

Believe it or not, the Ravens aren’t far behind the Chargers in terms of passing. Lamar Jackson has become much more of a pocket passer this season than in the past.

He’s passed for 291.8 yards per game for sixth in the NFL. Combined with their dangerous attack on the ground, the Ravens are first with 440.6 yards per game.

Jackson has gained 341 yards and 2 touchdowns on 6.1 yards per carry. There were a lot of doubts surrounding their run game because of injuries, but the Ravens have been more than fine.

Expect the Ravens to do a solid job stopping the Chargers on the ground, as they’ve been strong in that regard. However, all that’s going to do is give the ball to Herbert more often, which doesn’t look good for the Ravens’ secondary.

Don’t look for the Chargers to give up 42 points again. They should patch some things up after the Browns went up and down the field, though Lamar likely does damage at home. This should be a good one, with a final score of 30-27 or 28-27 to go OVER the total.
