Packers Eagles Spread Line and Predictions NFL Wild Card

Is there any more exciting quarterback, no, make that player in the NFL, than Michael Vick? Vick carried his team on his back, running and passing his way to more than 3,600 yards and 30 touchdowns (and thrilled Fantasy Football owners along the way). If Vick is healthy, and that remains in doubt as Vick was on the injury list last week, he is a game-changer. The Philadelphia Eagles (10-6) are delighted to be in the NFC playoffs in a transitional year for the team but aren’t thrilled with the way they limped to the finish line with two straight home losses. The Green Bay Packers (10-6) fought their way into the playoffs following an erratic year of injuries and upset losses. The two teams meet in Philadelphia in what should be a wild, entertaining, toss-up of a game with the Eagles favored by -3, kickoff slated for 4:30 PM EST.

Every year there is usually one playoff team that is feared. The makeup of those teams is always the same — a great quarterback combined with a defense that plays well in front and can create turnovers. The Cardinals and Giants reached recent Super Bowls with this formula; this year it is the Packers. With Aaron Rodgers at quarterback and a talented group of receivers to go along with the right combination of speed and pass-rushing ability on defense, no one wants to play the Packers, who are Super Bowl contenders. The Packers grew offensively in their one game without Aaron Rodgers — against New England — and the sky is the limit, as long as their offensive line holds up. The defense continues to ascend, too, and most of the team has some playoff experience (whether it was just last year, or it goes back to their 2007 run). So long as they can protect the franchise quarterback, there aren’t many holes on this team. The Green Bay Packers trailed the Chicago Bears in the NFC North Division with a 10-6 regular-season record. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers handled the majority of the passing duties, tallying 3,693 yards for 27 touchdowns. He too saw a rushing role, recording four touchdowns on the ground along with another 335 yards. Rodgers had help from running back Brandon Jackson who had 684 rushing yards for three scores. On the receiving end, Greg Jennings led the team with 1,168 yards for 12 touchdowns and was followed by James Jones, who caught five touchdowns passes for 671 yards.

Philadelphia comes into Sunday’s matchup with an NFC East crown, despite having lost two straight to finish out their regular season. Philadelphia was already guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs entering Week 17 and rested most of the key starters including Michael Vick. The Eagles lost 13-14 to Dallas. It was the Week 16 loss that has some Eagles fans worried however. The Eagles could have secured a first-round bye with a victory over the Vikings that Tuesday (following a snow delay) and Dallas and with the Chicago Bears loss to Green Bay.In the 2010 season, the Philadelphia Eagles went 10-6 to top the NFC East. Two quarterbacks shared the snaps, Michael Vick, who passed for 3,018 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Kevin Kolb, who noticed six touchdowns between 1,035 yards. Two Eagles receivers finished the season close to the 1,00-yard mark, DeSean Jackson with 1,056 yards for six touchdowns, and Jeremy Maclin, who caught 10 touchdowns passes for 964 yards. Vick was also responsible for a portion of the team’s rushing, tallying 676 rushing yards for nine touchdowns as he worked alongside LeSean McCoy, who recorded 1,080 yards for seven touchdowns. If you prorate the amount of time that Vick was on the field this year and take out the time that Kevin Kolb was playing, the Eagles averaged 33.8 points per game, which would have made them the No. 1 offense in the entire NFL. Vick only played half of the first game between these two teams, and he outscored the Packers 17-14 in the second half, rushing for 103 yards and throwing for 175 yards. There’s no reason that the man that is going to finish as the runner up in the MVP voting can’t do a lot of damage in this one again, though the Green Bay defense is still one of the most stout in the league.

Packers vs Eagles Prediction for Wild Card Weekend:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – Aaron Rodgers of the Packers knows how to exploit defenses, passing for over 3,900 yards and 28 touchdowns. Rodgers should be able to find WRs Grant Jennings, Donald Driver, and James Jones while the defense will go about harassing Vick with LB Clay Matthews, Jr. The Packers won the opener in Philadelphia, 27-20, in a game which they knocked-out quarterback Kevin Kolb and Vick nearly brought the Eagles back. Green Bay is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games and are riding into the Wildcard round with a ton of momentum and confidence as they knocked off the Giants and Bears to end the season. The Eagles on the other hand have not looked impressive since there miraculous road win against the Giants and Michael Vick is still nursing a pretty serious quadriceps injury. Both squads have explosive offenses, and this may be the most exciting first-round matchup slated for this weekend. Expect nothing short of fireworks, as both sides feature dynamic playmakers that should make for a wild ride but I do see the Packers finding a way to limit Vicks “creating” ability and Aaron Rodgers should have a monster day against a suspect secondary. The Eagles might be one of the better teams in the league, but the Packers are one of the most dangerous teams in football right now that they are in the playoffs. Don’t be shocked when the Pack pull the Wild Card round upset. We will consider the Packers covering this spread and, if you wish, sprinkle a little on the money line as I believe Green Bay has the team needed to avenge the offensive merits of the likes of the Eagles.

Top Play Prediction = Packers +2.5

Game Total Prediction – Following up on my top play prediction, the only way the Packers will leave Pennsylvania with a opening round victory is if they can keep Michael Vick and the Eagles offense in check and maintain ball possession. The Minnesota Vikings reveled that if Vick can be contained within the pocket and if the running game can be held in check then they are not as fearsome as they sometimes seem. The Vikings held the Eagles to 14 points due to the fact that Vick was given little room to create opportunities. I believe that Clay Matthews and AJ Hawk have the ability to contain Vick and roam the field with him, that being said I do not see the Eagles running up and down the field as they usually do and scoring at will. This game will be a very low-scoring affair as both teams will not want to enter into a shootout. The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Philadelphia’s last 8 games when playing Green Bay and has gone UNDER in 6 of Philadelphia’s last 7 games when playing at home against Green Bay. As for the Packers, the total has gone UNDER in 7 of Green Bay’s last 8 games on the road and have key offensive injuries which will hinder the teams aggressive approach.

Prediction = UNDER 46.5 Total Points
