Packers Patriots Spread Line and Predictions Week 15 NFL

Both teams have aspirations of meeting again in Dallas in February. The Pats’ offense and defense are both playing at exceptional levels, while the Packers are going to have to depend on QB Matt Flynn to manage this game after QB Aaron Rodgers will be minding the bench due to last Sunday’s concussion. Tom Brady is exceeding his 2007 levels in recent weeks. If it gets lopsided, you know Bill Belichick won’t be yanking his starters. Can Green Bay find any sort of run game? Without Rodgers, it’s going to be imperative to run or the season is doomed. The (11-2) New England Patriots will look to improve their overall shot of home field throughout the AFC playoffs when they host the reeling (8-5) Green Bay Packers under the lights on Sunday, kickoff slated for 8:20 PM EST.

The Green Bay Packers are in trouble for a playoff spot after being the Super Bowl favorite in the early parts of the season. The Packers currently sit in second place in the NFC North at 8-5 overall, a record that currently puts them on the outside looking in for a Wild Card spot. The situation does not look good heading into week 15 as the Packers head to New England to face the Patriots, a team in full command of their destiny at this point. The Packers are a killer team in terms of net points this season as they are +117 on the year with an impressive 36 touchdowns scored. However they have a losing record on the road at 3-4 and that makes it really difficult to picture the Packers winning this game. Starter Aaron Rodgers was ruled out Saturday morning after Rodgers did not advance through the NFL’s designated post-concussion protocol. That means Flynn will be the first backup to start for the Packers since Brett Favre took over for an injured Don Majkowski against the Pittsburgh Steelers 18 years ago. Flynn will face the challenging task of leading the Packers to victory against the NFL’s current Super Bowl favorite. The Packers defense’s Achilles’ heel last season, when they ranked No. 2 overall in total defense, was their inability to contain elite quarterbacks. This season, while the Packers rank No. 1 in scoring defense, they’ve yet to face a truly elite quarterback. Certainly, nothing comes close to comparing to what they’ll face in the Patriots’ Brady.

The Patriots are 11-2 and it would take some fluky happenings if they were to miss the playoffs this season and, winners of 5 straight, they look great to avoid playing on Wild Card Weekend as well as they currently have the best record in the AFC. Besides the 5 straight wins, the Patriots look fantastic heading into their game against the Packers due to the fact that New England have not lost a home game all year. A perfect 6-0 at home, it was only a couple weeks ago when New England blew out the New York Jets – a result that was surprising just due to the fact that the spread was enormous. Tom Brady is once again putting together a MVP caliber year and he looks like he has avenged his leg woes of two years past. Dating to November 2006, Brady is 26-0 in home games he has started in the regular season and 3-1 in home playoff games. Brady’s dynamic duo of Wes Welker (the ultimate slot man has quick feet and strong hands) and Deion Branch (an elite route runner with great acceleration) are always on the same page with their leader. Rookie tight ends Rob Gronkowski (big, burly, and boisterous) and Aaron Hernandez (swift and surehanded) continue to impress, thriving in a complicated offense. The Patriots haven’t had a Pro Bowl TE since Ben Coates in 1998. In 2010, they drafted Rob Gronkowski and Rob Hernandez. Suddenly, a position of glaring weakness has become a position of overwhelming strength. The Patriots are getting tremendous mileage from early-down RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a rookie they signed as a free agent in May 2008, and third-down match-up problem RB Woodhead.

Packers vs Patriots Prediction for Week 15:

Game Total Prediction (TOP PLAY) – With the forecast at kickoff calling for snow and the Patriots playing under the lights I like the chances for a high scoring affair. Tom Brady looks like the MVP for this season and he is lighting up the scoreboards on a week-to-week basis. The Packers will be starting QB Matt Flynn Sunday night but he should be able to manage this game for the Packers as he now has had a week of snaps under his belt. People forget that Flynn was a highly touted pivot coming out of college and he has all the capabilities of playing the quarterback position in this league. The total has gone OVER in 5 of New England’s last 5 games and has gone OVER in 6 of New England’s last 7 games at home. I believe the Patriots will look to score early and often in order to rest some of their starters in the second half. This game has all the potential to reach the OVER by early in the third quarter. We will consider the OVER on prime time Sunday night.

Top Play Prediction = OVER 43.5 Total Points

Spread Prediction – This line tells me that Vegas believes very little in the Packers as a team without QB Aaron Rodgers at the helm. In my opinion they have this wrong, the Packers are a solid club even with a Matt Flynn under center. Their defense is fast and explosive and can dominate when they are clicking on all cylinders. I believe coach Mike McCarthy can give starting quarterback Matt Flynn a fairly easy and scripted game plan that should keep the Packers close. Green Bay is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games when playing New England. The Patriots have already locked up a strong playoff position and may be inclined to sit a couple starters if they are up by a couple scores late in the game, which would allow the Packers to sneak under this number. New England is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games when playing Green Bay. The Packers are a good enough club to not be embarrassed on prime time television, they will keep this one reasonably close. Take a look at the Cheese heads breaking this spread.

Prediction = Packers +14
