The Green Bay Packers, in the face of adversity, take on the Washington Redskins to conclude Sunday. At 4-5 on the season, the Packers have slipped out of control in the NFC North, giving way to the Detroit Lions who are currently 1st. The good news for the Packers is that they are still very much alive to win the division, the bad news is that they have looked pretty awful. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers look all out of sorts and don’t deserve a top spot at this point. The winner of this division may have an ugly record going into the playoffs, telling by the way it’s gone thus far. It feels like there is always one division who limps into the postseason, and this year it might be a team who comes from the NFC North. As bad as the Vikings and Packers have been, they’re still alive in the hunt. The Lions lead with a record of 5-4, so this thing is a ways from done.
Rodgers has to snap out of it and get his wheels in motion, though. He had the one nice game against the Falcons, but other than that he’s look off and disinterested in playing. The drama with his family has been well documented, dating back to his brother’s appearance on The Bachelor over the summer. It’s recently come to a head, as people start to talk about if this is what has him playing off. There is also the notion of fellow teammates and people close to him who say he has an ego and is a different person from a few years ago. Personal business is personal business so I can’t comment much on that, but I can comment on how bad he’s been on the football field.
The Redskins and Kirk Cousins have a glorious opportunity to show the nation how good they are. They haven’t a chance to showcase their talents in primetime, so here is their opportunity against Rodgers and the Packers. The Packers look down and out, but watch, all it’ll take is one complete performance and everyone will be riding them again. Here is their stage too, with all of the country watching on Sunday Night Football, we’ll see what they draw up to get back into the chase for the NFC North.

Packers vs. Redskins Pick:
Aaron Rodgers just doesn’t look like he cares to be playing football anymore. I know Packers’ fans don’t want to hear that, but I know there are several who would agree me with there. The Packers’ offense used to be automatic. Last season we saw it regress a bit, and this season they’ve been hitting an all-time low, at least in the Rodgers’ era. The Packers are 14th offensively, and yeah, that is a low for them, averaging 355.9 yards per game. Last week was perhaps the all-time low for the Packers after getting whipped by the Tennessee Titans. The Packers got blown out by a score of 47-25. Green Bay are scoring 24.8 points a game, so not awful, but not Packer football.
Although the Packers allowed 47 points, their overall body of work on defense hasn’t been that bad. They’re 10th in yards allowed per game and the Titans certainly bumped that number up. The Packers have been quite good against the run as well. Note that they are 4th in the NFL, allowing 84.4 yards per game. For a team that’s been beat up as much as they have this season, the Packers’ defense has been trying their best to make up for the offensive struggles. The Redskin have allowed 23.9 points per game, as they rank in the middle of the league in major defensive categories.
If Rodgers wants to get in a rhythm in this game, he’s going to have the weather against him. This isn’t all on Rodgers, I should say that. The talent on the Packers is non-existent. Jordy Nelson is playing on a surgically repaired knee and Randall Cobb has hit a wall. Rodgers needs some other guys to make plays but no one is stepping up. The running game can’t get anything done either. All across the east coast, there is going to cold and gusty winds. It’s going to be no different in Washington, with gusts expected to reach over 50mph during this one. This has more of an impact than snow without a doubt. There will be a lot of money coming in on the OVER here, but I would watch out for the weather in Washington. I am going to lean with the UNDER.
PICK: UNDER 49.5 POINTS (-110)
