The NFL is set up with another great week of action on Sunday afternoon. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout the day. One of these matchups will be between the Carolina Panthers and the Kansas City Chiefs. These two teams have had solid starts to the season so far and will look for a big win in this one. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.
The Panthers have earned a record of 3-5 to open up the new season, which has them in third place of the NFC South. Carolina has lost three straight games coming into this one and will look for a way to bounce back in this one. The Panthers have been a bit inconsistent this season, but will need to step up playing the defending Super Bowl Champions.
Kansas City has put up a record of 7-1 throughout this season, which has them on top of the AFC West. The Chiefs have not had much of a Super Bowl hangover as they have dominated throughout this season. Kansas City will look to keep rolling as they host Carolina this week. The Chiefs have won three in a row and will look to keep it going.
The Chiefs have been the better team to open up the new season and will look to continue to dominate with a win over the Panthers. Kansas City has put quite a few dominant wins this season, but will have to deal with the return of Christian McCaffery this week. The Chiefs will need their rushing defense to step up if they want to slow him down.
Carolina faced off against the Atlanta Falcons last week on Thursday Night Football. Curtis Samuel had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown on the night, but it was not enough. Matt Ryan and Todd Gurley both rushed for touchdowns in the win. Younghoe Koo was able to make 4-4 of his field goals on the night as the Falcons earned a 25-17 win on primetime.
The Chiefs met up with the New York Jets in Week 8 of this season. Sergio Castillo went 3-3 on field goals, but that was the only bright side for the Jets on the day. Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdowns on the day, two of those going to Tyreek Hill. Kansas City was able to dominate from the beginning earning a 35-9 win.
The Panthers took a tough loss on Thursday Night Football last week, but they have had some extra time to prepare coming into this one. Kansas City is coming off a dominant win against the Jets who have not been able to get anything going. If the Chiefs can come out strong on defense again, it could be enough to earn a dominant win over Carolina. The Panthers will need to find some consistency on offense though if they want to keep up with Kansas City.
Teddy Bridgewater is the starting Quarterback for the Panthers this season. Bridgewater has thrown for 2106 yards, 9 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He has rushed for another 161 yards and a touchdown this season. Last week Bridgewater went 15-23 for 176 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The Panthers will need him to step up in this one.
Patrick Mahomes continues to dominate the NFL as he starts for the Kansas City Chiefs in this one. Mahomes has thrown for 2315 yards, 21 touchdowns and 1 interception this season. Mahomes has also rushed for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 31-42 for 416 yards and 5 touchdowns last week to help the Chiefs earn a big win over the Jets.
Kansas City has the edge at Quarterback in this one with Mahomes. Mahomes continues to do the impossible as he bursts onto the scene. Carolina will need Bridgewater to step up to keep up with Mahomes and the Chiefs high powered offense. The Panthers will have McCaffery back to help take the pressure off Bridgewater, which could help Carolina on Sunday.
Carolina has been struggling a bit on offense this season, but their defense has been solid. The Panthers have scored 179 points and gained 2888 yards of offense, which is 25th and 19th in the NFL. Carolina has held their opponents to 193 points, which is 13th in the league. The Panthers have also allowed 2859 yards, which is 15th in the NFL.
The Chiefs have been dominant on both sides of the football throughout this season. Kansas City has scored 253 points this season, which is 2nd in the league. The Chiefs have gained 3284 yards, which is 4th in the NFL. Kansas City has held opposing teams to 152 points and 2752 yards, which are 3rd and 10th in the league this season.
The one weakness in this Kansas City team is their rushing defense. The Chiefs have allowed 1142 yards on the ground, which is 29th in the NFL this season. Kansas City had dominated just about everywhere else this season. The Panthers need their defense to step up in a big way in this one as they try to slow down Mahomes and the Chiefs. If Carolina can keep this close, their defense could give them a chance.
The Panthers are coming off three straight losses, while Kansas City has won three in a row. I believe that the Panthers will come out hot in this one as they look to earn a big win. Carolina has Christian McCaffrey back in this one, which could torch the Chiefs defense. The Panthers might not be able to pull off the upset in this one, but I think they will keep it close.
BetOnline has Kansas City listed as a -10 ½ against the spread on Sunday afternoon. This gives a big edge to the Chiefs. The Panthers have looked like a playoff team at times this season and I expect them to fight back. With McCaffrey back in this one it will boost the offense, which I think will help them keep this one close and cover the spread.
