Patriots vs. Chargers Pick – Week 14 NFL Sunday Night Football

Two of the top teams in the AFC square off to close out your Sunday of football on national TV as the Patriots travel to California to take on the San Diego Chargers. After dominating most teams in the league for a long stretch, New England ran into an equally hot Green Bay Packers team at Lambeau Field last week, dropping a close encounter. New England remains one of, if not the top team in the NFL, but another difficult road challenge awaits in San Diego on Sunday Night Football. The Chargers meanwhile showed a ton of heart and character last week in Baltimore, coming back from a deficit to win it late. San Diego is for real and with Philip Rivers now seeming healthy once again, this Chargers team is capable of beating anybody. It’s going to be a great game to close out the day and we’ve got you fully covered at The Sports Geek. Read on below for a full game breakdown and our featured wager on this all-AFC clash.

Patriots vs. Chargers Pick:

With Rivers healthy once again, himself and his team are now capable of great things. This is a complete football team that does a lot of things well. And while they will most certainly face a stern test today from the Patriots, they are more than capable of handling every Tom Brady and Co. will throw at them. The Chargers offense really clicked last week in Baltimore, though this week it may not be as easy of a go. Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner are two of the game’s best corners and establish the pass on them might prove problematic. Instead, look for San Diego to get their running game going against a questionable and depleted run defense from New England. The Pats are just an average team at containing opposing rushers, and look for Ryan Matthews to have a big game and keep the chains moving. Production from him should open up some passing avenues downfield as well.

When the Patriots have the ball, expect them to have similar success. Their offense is pretty unbelievable in that there are just so many weapons. Regardless of how they’re obtained, it seems players come to New England to succeed. Last week Baltimore was able to really move the chains well on San Diego. Their defense was sluggish and secondary was susceptible. That’s not good news against Tom Brady and the Patriots. Brady can spread the ball around as good as any quarterback in football and just because Brandon Flowers has returned for the Chargers, it doesn’t mean the Patriots offense won’t put on a show tonight. Even on the ground, like themselves, the Chargers don’t defend the run all that well. Whoever runs – be it Jonas Gray or LeGarrette Blount, they’ll be in line for a big game.

This should be a fun game to watch. I anticipate a true back-and-forth affair from two prolific and versatile offenses. While I think the Pats do ultimately win (and cover), I think a better play exists on the Over 52 in tonight’s clash. Both offenses can put up huge numbers, and question marks do exist in each defense. Tom Brady and Philip Rivers are two of the best at seeing and exposing weaknesses and look for them to do just that tonight. Something along the lines of 34-28 seems fitting for tonight’s thrilling affair.

PICK = Over 52 (-110)
