Patriots vs. Colts SNF Pick – NFL Week 6

The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts renew their rivalry in primetime on SNF. In this edition of the Patriots/Colts rivalry, the game will be played in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. This one is particularly interesting, as it’s the first game since deflate gate. The Colts had a hand in blowing the whistle on the Patriots, so it’s a little bit of an awkward moment for them in this game. If Tom Brady had struggled to start this season out, then there’d probably be a smile on members of the Colts’ organization. But with Brady out for the kill, the Colts have to be feeling like a deer in the headlights. That is a feeling the Colts are going to try and avoid against the Pats. All season long, the Patriots have lined up and demolished the other side of the ball. Other coaches have had that deer in the headlights type look. That is exactly what the Patriots are looking to do tonight. Revenge can work in two ways in this game. First, of course the Pats will probably be out for blood given the circumstance. And second, the Colts got blown out by the Patriots in the AFC Championship, so I’m sure they are looking to return the favor tonight.

With that said, the Patriots are the ones that will be a little more upset with what has transpired in the past few months. You don’t have to look at this game to see that. The Patriots and Tom Brady have been playing some of the best football we’ve seen since the undefeated season in 2007. That year didn’t end in a Super Bowl, but it is hard to argue against the Pats winning it all again here. They are the only team in history to win back-to-back Super Bowls, could they do it again? The way they’ve been playing yes of course. By all means it looks like the Pats and Packers are on a collision course for one another. But in a sport that has a one and done system in the playoffs anything can happen. The Patriots appear to be laser focused and no one to this point has been able to buck them off their horse. The Colts would pull off the biggest upset of the season if they can pull this one off. Find my pick for this edition of SNF below.

Patriots vs. Colts Pick:

The Patriots’ offense has been firing on all cylinders, which goes without saying. A year ago this time people were saying that Tom Brady was washed up and done. Since then he hasn’t slowed down. He is also doing all this without a big down the field threat, something a lot of people were saying the Pats needed to get back to being the best offense in the NFL. Well, the Pats still don’t have a threat down the field and they are 1st in the NFL in total offense, averaging 423.8 yards of offense per game. They are also 1st in passing offense with 331.2 yards a game. The New England offense is scoring a huge 37.2 points per game. Again, without that down the field threat everyone was begging for. Speaking of numbers and stats, the Pats have beaten the Colts by an average of 21 points the last four times they’ve played. This was with the Colts starting quarterback playing
.
Last week was just a signifier to how good the Pats’ offense really is. Brady was getting abused in the 1st half, I think getting sacked four or five times, but the offense still scored 30 points. It was the worst I have watched the offense play this season, yet they still managed to put up 30 on the Cowboys. That says something right there. Andrew Luck is questionable, so it looks like Matt Hasselbeck is going to get the call for the Colts again. The Colts were really hoping to get Luck back for this game, but as it stands it doesn’t look like the case. The offense has been abysmal in 2015, 19th in the NFL averaging 19.8 points per game. Colts’ defense has to keep them in the game, but they are 28th in the NFL in yards allowed. They’re also 28th against the pass. Doesn’t look like a good formula, with a backup quarterback, against an angry Tom Brady.

If the Patriots have the opportunity to embarrass the Colts tonight they’ll do it. I don’t know if it gets that out of hand, but the Patriots are motivated and hungry to send a message to the Colts that they can beat them with deflated balls, inflated balls, regulation balls, beach balls and so on. Big number on the road but I see the Patriots covering the 10.

PICK: PATRIOTS -9.5 (-110)
